They'll be on 765MW while the rest of our coverage will be on FOUR other frequencies. The information from the Daggers chap is misleading and incorrect - we're still giving Canvey and Daggers as much coverage as we would've done without West Ham. The claim that had we not done West Ham we'd have alternated commentary every week on Canvey and Daggers is inaccurate. We will have reporters at ALL Conference matches this season with selected commentaries which we will keep you updated about. We're the ONLY radio station with a reporter at EVERY Canvey, Daggers, Colchester and Southend match.

surely priority should be given to an Essex club, As you are going to give a London club coverage then surely an Essex club each time will lose out on coverage you would have given them.

Not the way we see it -

 

Canvey get four frequencies West Ham are on one. Canvey get FM and Digital, West Ham get medium wave. To do West Ham we had to ensure no Essex club would be disadvantaged and this is the case.

it still doesnt work. when the commentary for west ham is on, surely another team doesnt get coverage. or was their going to a channel broadcasting nothing

That frequency would just be replicating coverage on the other 4 frequencies so it's either the same on all 5 or something different on one of them so people can choose what they listen to. We did it on the opening day of the season when we had Southend away and Canvey away so we split the frequencies, giving commentary on Southend on FM and Canvey on MW. It's all about extending choice. The very fact we have 5 frequencies means we can do this. If we only had 1 frequency covering the whole county then we couldn't do this, but we can. No-one loses out, Canvey have gained by some distance this season.

but you have never had the same on all five (it certanly has been different games on each frequency far the last few seasons)

 

it still seems to me that unless you had a frequency sitting around not doing anything someone will loose out, but if you say no one looses out i will just have to take your word for it. only time will tell!

Since publishing the article on Diggerdagger, I have told that there has been a change in the levels of staffing, budget and commitments available to cover local sport.

 

BBC Essex have also told me that they do not accept that they have reduced the resources or coverage dedicated to Conference football, but I cannot marry that up with the fact that there will now only be selected commentaries of our respective games whereas there used to be coverage of each and every away Conference game, but I am sure you will all have your own views on that.
