Reserves, or something masquerading as such

Recommended Posts

Now far be it from me to say I told you so, but I note that the reserve team fixture is off tomorrow.

In a previous life, I did point out to our Chairman that this tends to happen on a regular basis in the Capital League, based on my experience, and that I really didn't believe that this was the way forward.

However, I know nothing about football.

So what happens now, next game is September 15th according to the Website. That'll certainly keep the chaps keen, fit and raring to go.

What a load of nonsense.

Watch out ..I'm back after summer recess

For those interested there is a reserve game tonight, a friendly so I'm told. Don't know the opposition but kick off is 7.45.

A few questions -

Will the bar be open ?

Any refreshments available ?

Any charge for entry ?

Anyway information gratefully received.

Cheers Rob, but can you clarify "a training game".

This suggests to me that it is a match involving all St Albans City players, a game that can be stopped and started to allow coaching to take place etc., whereas a friendly indicates opposition from another club which will require officials who presumably will want payment....

...or is this going to be jumpers for goalposts, no pitch markings and club linesmen.

Who knows and who really cares !!

Oh the joys of real reserve team football <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

For those dyed-in-the-wool scarfers amongst you...

St.Albans City Reserves (3)9 Royal Oak (0) 0

Smith A

Parkinson

Hann 2

Smith J

Afolayan

Cogger 2

Blythe

Following the postponement of tonight's reserve fixture with Thurrock, a training game was hastily arranged at short notice against the Royal Oak from Loughton.

Adam Smith opened the scoring with a fine strike and Parkinson and Hann added further goals to give Saints a 3-0 half time lead. Saints upped the tempo in the second half and with their opponents tiring, eventually ran out easy winners with a further goal for Hann, a double for Cogger and goals for James Smith, Afolayan and Blythe.

Line up

James Robinson; Jake Attwood (Alan Morrice), Amadue Riley Gerber, James Smith, Matt Jones; Gary Wraight, Ranbir Marwa, Steve Castle (Peter Afolayan), Adam Smith; Matt Hann (Jason Blythe), David Parkinson (Ben Cogger)
