As ye don't on my pitch

Recommended Posts

In celebrating the third goal for Town Bernard Asiedu rightly celebrated a fantastic goal but went too far took his shirt off and waved it above his head. Town players gathered round and tried to encourage him to put it back on fast but Mr Pope had clearly seen and did not hesitate in reaching for his book and booking him for removing his shirt.

Is this the first occasion this season in the ESL that this new rule from the FA has been enforced? Town fans did not complain we all knew the rules but this does seem a little mad to be honest. The young lad scores a good goal and get booked.

Why has this rule been brought in by the FA?

No, it happened last week as well at another game. The committee guy that is a ref on the Football League was at the last League meeting and made it very clear to all to warn players of this rule as the FA were adamant it was too be stamped out but he didn't have an answer to the wag who said .. " What about taking his shorts off " . In answer to you question as to why the FA decree this things - goodness knows, Cleggy !

The rules also say visible desent will be booked but this is often overlooked like today when Manors number 5 stood a yard away from the ref screaming at him to f off when he gave us a free kick. Why enforce some rules but not others?

Yes Good Point Bruno I was close by too. So you can swear at the ref but not take a shirt off after a goal. In citystreet, you would not be prosecuted for taking you shirt off in public but it is a harassment offence to swear at a Police Officer. How do we get people in citystreet to understand when the rules on the football field are not consistent with the real world! Come on you Police Officer refs you must have an opinion?

On Tuesday night a Bowers player scored against us and took his shirt off and waved it above his head in celebration just like young Bernard Asiedu did today, the Ref ignored it!! and did not book him? but then thinking about it! This is the Ref that sent off three Eton Manor players, gave two Dodgy penalty decisions in favour of Bowers plus allowed 2 blatant offsides that lead both times to Bowers scoring, and we wonder why we get the hump with poor officials. However in saying that I thought the officials today against the Town were excellent.

I heard that the reason for not being allowed to take shirts off, to celebrate, is because a lot of them now have the anti sweat lining and it takes ages to get them back on again when they are all tangled up. Don't know how true that is, but it does make sense. I don't see why it should be a bookable offence though. The player should be made to go off of the pitch until the shirt is back on, that would probably stop players doing it.

Teams should be able to do what they want to celebrate a goal, but the team that just conceded should be allowed to kick-off as soon as they want as long as all their players are in their own half.Lets see how long removing shirts and performing elaberate dance rutines last then.

From yesterday's Burnham Ramblers v Waltham Abbey prog:

"Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct

New International FA Board Decision 6

A player who removes his jersey when celebrating a goal must be cautioned for unsporting behaviour.

Reason

The removal of the jersey after a goal has been scored is unnecessary and players must avoid such excessive displays of celebration"

On talking to as couple of officials last week it is ok to lift up but basically must not go above the eyes.... unless they have a t-shirt on underneath that has a message in which case the player will be booked!

The above was printed because Lee Perry, scored the winning goal against Concord, celebrated in the manner described, got booked and was sent off for his 2nd yellow!

BTW did you know The Abbotts have a 100% record ?

With most of the Laws, a referee is expected to apply common sense and discretion. This is particularly true of foul or (NOT "and") abusive language, which beleive is now described as offensive language.

If every player was sent off every time he uttered a word generally considered in Western Europe as swear word, games would be abandoned after about 10 minutes. A ref will consider tone and sircumatsances as well as the actual word. If a srikers misses an open goal in the 89th minute with the score at 0-0, he is likely to berate hinself severely. It would be harsh ref who punished this. Even if a player uses a swera word conversationally, as it were, as in "[****!!****] hell ref, that was our ball" or something, it is unlikely that he (or she) will be punished.

However, if a ref is sworn at directly (eg ref you're a useless c****) then it's cheerio.

With something like the shirt removal thing, as there is an IBD decision, the referee has no discretion. Therefore if he fails to aplpy the law as instructed, however absurd it may be, he is at fault. I would assume that the law applies to all players, including subs, and not only the scorer.

Sorry I had to do this.........where is your spell checker?

No your right, every game would not last 10 mins, BUT these stupid laws are enforced and we have to obide. In my view....dissent should be punished and publisiced sod it I cant spell it...every week we see on Tv Premiership and Championship players verbally abusing and nothing happens. Kids then follow and despite earlier comment it is punished more often than not, maybe due to the standards at our level but we all strive to achieve the highest and are so frustrated when at our level we should be allowed to celebrate how we like but get punished more than the big boys for telling the ref what we think......it's all double standards in my book. Its all to do with the refs at our level under so much pressure to progress and do the right thing and when they get there the authorities (again a personal view) tell them apply the laws but if they send off superstars for verbal, they will not get on. Its a fact of pressure of the game? Cleggy, bruno what do you think? Be fair how many times do even Sky commentators (soccer am is a prime example)say look at his lips but conveniently don't braodcast the wrods..............

So if the player chooses to fold his shirt up and wear it as a bolero top it is OK?

What happens at Ladies games Bruno?

not many stupid dance routines and no shirt removal, whether this is all good or not,it just shows it is not needed.
Also sceaming for the ref to go away from a short distance can leave no confusion as to where it is aimed and the intention.
