Barkingside 3 ETFC 3

Recommended Posts

A very good game.

Barkinside's programme described in detail the match against Bowers and also stated that their pre-season friendlies had been fairly successful.

Barkingside will be nobody's patsies this year and, if they can keep the team together, will be in the top 5. Their attack is fast and knows what it is supposed to do. Their defence, however, is a bit suspect but with a solid goalkeeper in support.

In the first half we were ineffective in attack and the reasons were obvious to those who were there. In the second half the attack was reformed with an additional player substituted for a defender and "Town" won the second half whilst "Side" had the first. A fair result and a reminder that games have to be won.

BTW the ref was excellent as were the two linos. I did not see an error on the part of the linos. The ref played advantage well and was also able to deal with trouble. It may be claimed that a couple of penalties were missed but if they had been given I feel that the defenders would have felt agrieved.

I still think that the Town will win the league.

After an encouraging start on Saturday I was looking forward to this game, what a mistake

a)Players Snowdon – should be Snow GONE, he struggled at the end of last season, and has not improved, but nepotism rules. He has to take all the throw-ins, free kicks and the majority of the corners; and he can’t even get those right. High ball to the shortest forward line in non-league! As for reading the game, forget it.

b)Coaching – well thought we had a fitness coach – obviously not. The coaching team we have got don’t give any direction to the team apart from F*** when things typically go wrong. Really constructive.

ETFC better get used to the idea of life in the ESL; on this performance they are going now where; mid table at best this season, unless something changes.

They need

i)a Forward – not midfield players in attack; or more wide players; Smith when fit is a good attacking wide midfield player, not a centre forward. Nyman looks good; but would be better playing of a “big man”

ii)Midfield – please tell me who replaced Ridout – right no one. The same no one who is taking control of the midfield

iii)Defence – same as midfield, no one in control, Geordie looks big and menacing as a captain; but he is not bossing the back line

iv)Keeper – where is the cover?

I feel sorry for any one who thinks ETFC will win anything this season; as that is just optimism gone mad

ps Ref had a good game

pps the opposition managers must have been delighted to see such a poor performance from Town

Because he (she) is unregistered and prefers to wind the side up with negative comments.

As for Snowden taking free kicks. I didn't see that did anyone. It is clear that the writer does not recognise the players and so can be dismissed.

He doesn't even recognise the talent of Carey Wright or Jason Geraghty in the midfield.

Lino made one howler in the 2nd half judging a Town player off-side when he clearly wasn't. Everybody watching the game from the side was livid as it was a terrible decision. Ref did ok but thought he held up play unnecessarily on a few occasions though. Why call over a player for throwing the ball away and not book him? His objective was to waste time and he gets rewarded by receiving a talking to which wastes even more!

A draw was a fair result. Barkingside played well but I disagree with them being a top 5 side. It could well be a case of 2 points dropped.

Credit wher its due...ETFC fans are more than often criticised for slagging off the ref....but Steph gave them credit...fair play to you mate...

Wouldn't listen to qwrerty too much.....

If he thinks that Lee Smith is a wide player....well that says it all really....the boy is a good centre forward.....as we all saw in the cup final..

As for Stuart Snowden..there was much talk of him coming over to our place and the end of last season......but even after conceding 4 goals at the weekend.....we wouldn't want him...

Is Bradley Quinn playing this season...?

He can surely fill John Roidouts boots....?????

i was at the game last night and must say got my £4s worth. i was cracking up at b'side manager i thought he was going to have a heart attack! the game could of gone either way really.

i was impressed with b'side, they looked very fit and well organised in midfield.

the town forward who come on at ht made a massive difference, looks to be a very good player.

Yes Steph, Snowy did take most of the free-kicks.
Thought we were very good coming forward, creative in midfield (Though need John Everitt fit again for all the extra work he does), but need alot of work done defensively, B'side's attackers got in behind the defense far to easily.
Really enjoyed the game & though it an excellent advert for our league!.

A fair result. Steph's comments were too positive and other downright daft. The ref did very well in thefirst half and was average in the second. The lino did make a huge howler re the offside. I was evel with the play and it was blatant. However, some Town fans should have been ashamed of themselves for their reaction. When a poor decision is made it is one thing to shout your frustrations but the language around some of the kids and the violence of the protests were disgusting. One guy came charging down from the back throwing obsenities at the guy. It is not on.

Back to the game. We do need to strengthen in defence and need a bigger target man up front. Smith and Deano will then be able to feed of that. all in all, an entertaining yet frustrating game. Two poits dropped rather than one gained but with a couple of signings we will improve and certainly be challenging this season.

It was an enjoyable, if frustrating, game. We looked frail defensively, but good going forward.

In the first half we simply did not have enough of the ball, plus Lee Smith was patently unfit. I know he set up the first goal for Nyman beautifully but he could hardly run and should not have been on the pitch. Get yourself fit Lee and then we will see you play like you did last year I am sure.

The changes at half time made a big difference - flat back four looked better to me and we dominated the first 10 mins or so, deservedly scoring to make it 2-2. I thought we would go on from there, but to be fair B'side's 3rd goal was a cracker. Good old fashioned wing play saw Matty beaten and the guy put in a superb cross which was buried. Good goal.

People are putting this down as 2 points lost but at 2-3 down having just played a good spell of football to get it back to 2-2, I think the ETFC players fought back well to get a point.

We weren't far from getting a 4th but B'Side could have nicked it too. A draw was a fair result, and I too think B'Side will be top six based on that performance.

Terrific playing surface by the way, and I thought the referee had a good game too. He tried to play advantage whenever he could, and when there wasn't one he gave the free kick. So much better than the chap we had on Saturday. The one howler was the lino's in the 2nd half - a dreadful offside decision well described by Mr Happy. And yes the reaction of some of our fans was awful. I'm glad none of my young sons were there to hear it.

1 point gained, not 2 points lost.

For our three goals we played to our strengths - ball on the floor to feet or for someone to run on to. The high ball in the air to the front runners was certainly a non starter! As B Clough once said, 'if God would have wanted us to play football in the air, then he would have given us wings!' - or something like that.

Defensively we played as though it was nearing Christmas with the pressies we gave Barkingside.

However, a good game, big crowd and decent company.

Here's looking to beating Eton Manor on the rebound on Saturday!

So, in an ideal world ETFC would sign a central defender, central midfielder and a big target man up front. Is there really any chance of this happening? - Lee Francis was meant to be joining but never showed.

~We've looked weak in central defence since we formed. If we're ever going to get out of this league we need to stop leaking goals. We scored 3 times yet only claimed a point! Burnham could easily have scored a couple on saturday. It should be more comfortable than it is.

It may be very very early days, but as far as I'm concerned JC HAS to deliver this season, and I don't just mean a league cup, I mean promotion. Let's not forget how few games we have this campaign.

I think you meant Lee Harvey.

Adam Gant will be fit soon, and i would have him in ahead of snowden at the back. That doesn't mean i don't see a future for Snowy.I think he could be a good central midfield player or a right back.

It's up to Jim to make some tough decisions (he may upset a few people ,but it's got to be done). The priority is to win the league.

Yep, I agree. I think Gant and Hall in the centre of defence. Maybe it's time to try Snowy somewhere else, for example right back. The problem then is whether he's better than Digby. I think he's probably slightly ahead of Riley. He may also be stronger than Geraghty in central midfield.

I suppose we have to look on the bright side, we're still unbeaten and we've made a better start than last season. It's almost impossible to replace players like John Ridout over-night.

I wasn't there Monday so can't comment on the performance. However, people who know me know that I am not Stuart Snowden's biggest fan. How defence was woeful most of last season and despite many changes there was one person who appeared immune to being removed from it. If we want to win this league it's time for Jim to make the one overdue decision that he appears unable to make.

Before people go on about being a good club player etc etc. I accept that but we need more than that to win the league.
