Back from the match, 10 minutes away as I live between Croydon and Bromley. A good all round performance all in all. Thought the gate should have had it sealed by half time with a host of close chances missed. Margate definately had the upper hand in the first half and sometimes looked a different class with their previous Conference experience. A different second half with, I believe, the home side having the edge, but our defence holding out with two chances cleared off the line. Benevides played tonight and looked sharp although was substituted in second half. Che had a good match I thought although he again should have had at least two goals after going one on one with the keeper. Hopefully the goals will come. Bill Edwards as good as ever at the back and also Clarke was impressive. A lot of fight in the team tonight and

if we can add one or two players I think we will at least be in the play-offs. Ward played in goal and is still looking vulnerable and slow off his line. Once again time will tell. Did not see match on Saturday and so cannot compare. Team was what I can remember

Ward Oates Green Barnett Edwards Annon Keister (Gradley) Clarke Benevides (Charalumbus) Stadhart

Babtiste. Subs not used Hussain Pulman and Jjunju (I think)

Forgot to mention the away support. There must have been about 60-70 Gate supporters there tonight. Not a lot of noise tonight but good to see a coach load and a number who travelled by car

Tried to post last night but system down.

As above, i thought it was a Battling performance and we nicked the points ,though fair result would probably be 3-2 to Carlshalton.

Even first half-Carlshalton marginally more of ball, but as above, the extrea quality of Che, Rocky ,Clarke and JK was noticeable.

2nd half-midfield non existent.Carlshalton had most of ball, quite a few close attemopts ,about 12 corners and we cleared ball off line 3 times.

Frankly-we escaped ,but yes we did battle hard and scraped through.

As above Che had good chance at end ,as did Benevides on the follow up but both got it slightly wrong.

Oates also had goalbound shot unluckily hit Benevides in back, but otherwise it was all Carlshalton in 2nd half.

I thought Ward was ok in goal.Mega Mix-up with Edwards that nearly led to a goal, but Smithy also had a few of those.Overall he was ok.

Green-good.Got booked.

Oates-worries me a bit that is neither defending or attacking .Think on away games CK needs to tell him to defend more-the defence needs help.

Back 3 were wobbly.Barnett ok but when he wins ball does not clear it that far.Annon and Edwards have both had much better games.

Think defensive drills are needed in training this week.

Look particular vulnerable in the air ,plus we are a bit slow these days. Can get away with it if organisation is good but that also needs sorting out.Other teams will be better at finishing than Carlshalton.

Midfield-Clarke and JK pretty good first half-nowhere to be seen in second apart from JK continually colliding and going for same ball as Annon.JK played deeper.

Benevides-feel is too lightweight and does misplace passes.Although only on briefly, Gradley seemed to have better positional sense thus harder to get passed .

Rocky and Che did ok upfront.Che would narrowly have been my mom if he had not missed a fairly easy chance to put us 2-0 up.

Overall, no-one was outstanding ,but no one played realy bad so guess a good team performance

Very obvious how likes of Porter, Leberl and Jay are missed.

We are lacking height and above all POWER.

Grateful for small mercies such as a team, but need a strong midfielder and a classy defender-can we afford?

On the performance, main question is-is that as good as it gets.

If so, bottom 6 looks likely.

If we improve and can get another couple of players in ,then mid table will be on.

Not convinced we will get much better as the basic level of skill of players on show is there to see.Other teams will also improve as season goes on.

At end of day though ,am ecstatic as we nicked a win and its points that count.AS at start, it was a battling performance .

Thought before match that Carlshalton would be one of weaker sides, but think they wil be ok ,so emphasises that despite an average performance, it was 3 points gained.

Also meant to say that we never strung more than 3 passes together, but for now, i will put that down to the grass which was very long and needed cutting imo.

Hope we can pass a bit more in future, though by reports we managed to on saturday

Thought that the above post from michaelmichael was a fair reflection of the game- dont know what match margateshot went to. there were chances at both ends but 2nd half we played very well and I am not quite sure how we failed to score. To be fair your defence and keeper pulled off some good stops. You are right about the finishing- a sharper side up front would have nonetheless put a couple away.

I did feel that Carshalton played better than Bognor did on Saturday, which gives credit to the win.

I don't think that Peter Benvenides is completely match fit yet, he looked tired in the second half.

Alexis had a very near miss in the second half, don't think anyone has mentioned that.

The defence were definitely better than Saturday. It looked to me that Billy and Ward are beginning to work together and communicate. Darren worked his rocks off and all credit to him for that.

I have never been a huge fan of Che but his work rate in the last two games has been phenominal and I think that once he nets one he will be off , he has gone up in my estimation considerably. He came very close last night. Rocky worked really really hard for the entire match, and I think we will see some of his magic again soon, he had the beating of defenders several times with some of his dances round, but has not got the sharp finish on yet that I am waiting for.

Watching Adrian slot that goal in with his left foot from about 20 yards out made everything worthwhile, what a beauty. I wish he could have hit home with that header shortly afterwards.

The first half was a great, exciting end to end contest but the second half reminded me somewhat of that dire match against Farnborough last year, sweating drops of purple hoping we can hold on until the end. I hope we don't get that too often, not good for the blood pressure.

All in all travelled home in a happy frame of mind.

They drive like total loonies in Carshalton tho.

thought that the game was a good one but again we cannot go through the season just putting 1 goal past the opposition although we missed a sitter and billy edwards was solid at the back and cleared one off the line grass was a bit long and thought that carshalton did give a good account of themselves still early days but i think we will come good and once again che stadhart was my man of the match for the second game running so quick(not as quick as greene boy can that boy run!!)what a nightmare finding the ground though!!!!

Thats two of us who think Carlshalton need a lawnmower.

Reflecting today, i think that is a valid reason why we passed so poorly.Grass really was very long.

Good tactic we should remember when playing good teams-don't mow the pitch for two weeks

Morning Mr Nolan,

Hope you are right, but as said, just trying to be realistic and honest opinion; with current squad-bottom 6.

Assuming CK works his magic dust, and we can fund 3-4 quality additions ,then mid table.

I'd settle for mid-table , no nerve racking relegation dogfight, and serious cup runs in Trophy and FA CUp to bring some money in

Think a top 5 will be possible if we get the team together on the pitch quickly, once they gel there is no reason why we can't finish 5th+ or get 1st at that.

The next few games should give us our answer me thinks, need 2 call 4 the ball more as we were jumping over each other 4 the ball on Monday. Once thats taken care of...

"YOU CAN DO IT.........ALL NITE LONG!!!"
