Slough outplayed

Slough lost 3-0 to Thame, and were outplayed for most of the match. Although Slough had the majority of possession in the first half, they did not look like being able to do anything with it. The second half was all Thame. Slough played with little passion (Haki apart), and even fewer ideas.
I have said all along that we stand no chance of promotion, and even with our first good run in 2 years, the results have flattered us recently. Can the space cadets return to earth please and stop talking about promotion--we don't have, and never have had a snowballs chance in hell.

Why have we not had a good chance of promotion? ... shocked.gif" border="0
If a few teams up top did drop more points then they have then we would have been in with a chance.
The game today - on top for first half without creating too many chances and they scored with their only shot of the half.
Two second half goals were on the break although we did not play well second half and in the end they deserved their win.
Anyway, lets just win as many remaining games as possible and get in as higher position as possible, as it could lead to a back door route for promotion. Never know football is a funny game.

Oh dear , one deafeat and someone moans . Ok the second half wasn't good but we've had a good run and like Chris said , why can't we get promoted ? Personally I do feel it's a slim chance , but it's certaily NO chance . Also to say some results have flattered us it totally unfair . Don't forget we have/had (without looking at latest table) the meanest defence and scoring plenty . The only games where we were fortunate were Barking and the 1st half hour against Windsor . Other games we needn't try too much as the opposition had players sent off .

To say that you said all along that we won't go up is fair enough and you will remind us no doubt if we don't , but the reason will be the lack of pre season that will cost us . I really wonder how the season would have gone if we had that pre season ?

We had a bloody good turn out today from us fans , when they scored it didn't seem like there were too many of them so it shows we do have some faith . If we don't go up I hope everyone stcks together as we will next season .

Not moaning about the players, but about the delusion that we are in with a chance of promotion. 4 wins in a row (we were also lucky with 2 dubious goals against Tooting, and another did it cross the line to lead against Harlow), and some fans have lost sight of reality, and are heading for planet Zog. Please come down to earth.

Ted why are you always so BLOODY negative? Why didn't we have a snowball's chance in hell.... What makes you think we still don't?? Things can change !! Yes you will say you're being realistic but there is a difference between realistic and being negative and giving up the cause. Are you going to stop supporting Slough as they try to overcome the odds because you think it's all over??? mad.gif" border="0

Yeah, it's her again.
Well, I went today for the first time in a while. I thought we looked the stronger side for at least the first half of the match then we let it slide down the pan into mediocrity.....we had a good turnout, positive support, yet there seemed to be no spark in the team, no will to win....a lack of cohesion as a team....nothing changes it seems, but maybe I'm being over sceptical.
I thought with a few wins under our belt and a steady climb up the table, we'd look more positive and organised on the field, but we don't. Yet again, at the end of the match, they all saunter off the pitch with (apart from a couple of exceptions), little or no acknowledgement of the fans....I can't help but think that it will take a miracle to get us promoted this season....it all seems exactly the same as the last time I went....am I a jinx???

I think its harsh to say we were totally outplayed. In the first half they only had one shot. If we had had a couple of breaks maybe it would have been different. The referee was awful and at least three times failed to play the advantage when we had the ball. Also we tend to play better football when passing on the deck but today that was impossible the pitch just had too many bobbles. I know at this stage of the season it is difficult to get a good playing surface but todays was bad. Having said that do we have any chance at Maidenhead in the B&B cup.

Why won't we go up? 10 points behind, with 9 games left to play is a good start. Higher teams have games in hand, and we arn't playing particularly well.
How many good saves did the Thame keeper have to make today? How much running into space did our players do today? When our tactics weren't working did we try anything different? We weren't thrashed, but we were outplayed. Overall Thame deserved to win sounds as if you had to give the matter some thought. Fact is we were totally outplayed.

I heard the same rumours today--if not true, it might be good PR for the club to deny them.
I don't see I'm being negative--just pointing out what happened. I'm not knocking individuals (the scope is there), I'm just looking at our last several performances and saying we currently arn't good enough, even if our position were better. Promotion is just a pipe dream.

Absolutly agree with Ted, we will not go up and were always highly unlikely to. It is pathetic to be using the excuse of no pre-season again and just shows what a sorry state the club is in. At present it seem we willhave just one more season of existence and it will be in this craphole of a league.

The logic of too many people on this forum is one of blind optimism, often from the same people who were convinced we were not going to get relegated last season.Predictions ranged from hopeful to downright ludicrous (no 10-0 win over Barking)Any deviation from the party line and the the optimistic mafia get all sanctimonious. Ah well, at least its a change from last year when the blind optimism mafia had to post under several names in sad attempt to pretend more people held their incorrect views. Rumours of non payment--hush, don't talk about it. Get real, sticking your head in the sand should be the action of ostriches.

If the money problem is that bad why have 90% of last seasons squad stayed on?
Sure, they know that wages could be late, but they also know that at this level they will get nowhere near what they are on at Slough, they are not stupid!
Quick question Ted, why do you support Slough cos you NEVER have anything positive to say about anything - always the first to post when something goes wrong and the last to post when things are going well.
and there was no hust about non payment - this is the first I have heard of it if it's true and even if we did it's hardly something you want to shout about is it?
BTW Gary's 10-0 prediction was only a joke
SUPPORT THE BLOODY TEAM!!!!!!!!!

Totally agree Chris, well said. Can I make just one suggestion? You may want to take a break from working on the website and go and practice your pool skills. wink.gif" border="0

Hmmmm, it seems as though everything really does stay the same both on the pitch, behind the scenes and even on the Official forum...same old complacency, same old forelock tugging, same old don't anyone dare have an independent opinion or you'll be shot down in flames.....
What I saw yesterday was totally lacklustre and even if the eagerly anticipated miracle happened and STFC got promoted (accompanied doubtless by an honour guard of flying pigs), on the basis of that performance, we'd have to hope for another miracle to stay up.
Look, I just can't understand why as soon as we win a few games, so many people forget what's under the surface - no ground, no announcement, a massive squad, a dubious manager, the money problems etc, etc, etc...... What's changed?
I give up....

Chris has decided I don't support Slough. I bet I make a damn site more noise at a match than he does--all of it supportive.
Chris has also decided that I do nothing but moan. If he bothers to look at my postings most are impressions from matches--normaly posted bcos no one else has, or posts trying to point out to the mathematically challenged that promotion isn't on.
It was you wasn't it Chris who belittled the posting last week about a transfer embargo. Turned out to be true didn't it. When you found out it was true, did you post a correction? Or did you sit on it.
I might moan, but at least I'm not dishonest.

For a start more noise does not necessarily mean better support does it? mad.gif" border="0
Loads of people post about matches as well, not just you, take a look!!!!
And for the 95th time, why was promotion not on mathematically? In that case
- why have the local press been talking about promotion?
- Why has Steve Browne talked about in in the programme?
- Why were people talking about it in the coach in recent weeks?
- Why were people talking about it on this forum?
Are all these people crap at maths and can't add up?
And as for the transfer embargo, has it been confirmed?
Is there anything on the STFC website?

Is there anything on the Ryman site?
As far as I know or I am told by someone in an official capacity at the club, then it's a rumour.
OK it looks pretty concrete now, but at the time it looked unlikely last week when we signed a player when this apparent ban was on.
Plus the post was made by another 'anon' which made it look false as well.
So don't call me dishonest when nothing has been confirmed!!!
