Thursdays meeting

Ted

Recommended Posts

No doubt there will be notes from the meeting posted---there was a lot said and it would take quite a while for anyone to write up.

For the moment Deaner is willing to fund us while the search for a site (without Council help) goes on. I felt that Deaners presentation was an excellent one, clarifying much history associated with him, and outlining some possible ways forward (none of which include the council as he said to a question "Lets put it this way, I can't deal with liars")

Asked what the fans could do to help, he replied "

If every fan brought someone with them to each match, that would be great".

Getting numbers to turn up now seems to be more important than ever.

Gary and Emma have some A3 sized fixture posters that badly need a home on notice boards, shop windows etc. There are already some up in Safeways, Slough Library and some newsagents. Places like Tescoes, ASDA, Sainsburys and B and Q do not have anywhere to display the information.

That leaves sites such as the Cippenham/Britwell Libraries, Newsagents, clubs etc---particularly anywhere visable on Slough High Street/shopping centre.

Can you help? If you can, please obtain a poster at the first home game (No rush as the first home fixture has been changed anyway. Lets get these up in some highly visable sites.

If you can put a poster up, please mention it here as it will save me calling in.

Sorry I do not fully understand what you are saying-how can we get a site for the football club-by ignoring the council.Surely if we are to built a stadium, we would need council planning permission. Unless you mean purchase a stadium all

ready up and running?-Do you know of something in that direction?

Tara.

Not looking for the Council to help at all. Naturally the Council needs to be involved for planning permission etc, but we will no longer be relying on them to help in any way at all.If I read Deaner correctly he no longer wants the counciul to be involved in any way except where they have to be.

Any ideas on where fixture posters can be put up?

For really big games, e.g. local derby with Windsor and possible F.A Cup games, would it be possible to rent a bill-board. Not sure how much this would cost, but thought its an idea.

Slough High street for fixture lists? Blockbusters, Some of the bars and maybe even the main pedestrian area in shop windows?

Having done some research, it seems that billboards are around £200 per day!

How about A4 size posters and put them in the various free or occasionally pay to advertise areas of supermarkets, B&Q, local newspaper shops, barbers and other shope which do advertising in the window.

If we get a really well designed and eyecatching poster background, preferably with Slough Colours - the header off the website would be OK, with a blank middle, or the minimum constant details like:

SLOUGH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

Next Home match

(Blank for status of game (Ryman Premier, FA Cup etc))

on (blank for date)

Versus

(BLANK FOR OPPONENTS)

at Stag Meadow (plus address)

We can then run them off on a normal printer having inserted the correct details.

The advantage of this might be that various people could keep a stock of blanks, then the club or the Trust send out a file with the centre bit, and they are printed off by a fan and distributed to their local display points. That way we keep it from being a giant job for a few people.

It would cost a few hundred pounds for the Poster masters, but there would be several boxes of them for that - easily enough for a whole season, but it is a cheap way to present a professional image, rather than just a typed A4 sheet like you see for some clubs.

We use this technique for handouts and flyers in our business and it works very well - I have a sample of what I mean if anybody is interested in organising this from the Trust - just drop me a personal message.

There's lots of suggestions from people of where posters could be put up.

What there doesn't seem to be is anyone actually asking any of these places whether they would display a poster.

If fans really want to do something positive to help the club, that will require a little bit of effort and not constant reliance of "someone else" to do the legwork.

Ted has managed to get several posters displayed now. I think he was wanting someone else to try and get some put up as well, rather than a load more suggestions of places for him to traipse round himself.

Martyn Deaner made it clear that he would like fans to do their bit as well as what he and the STST do, so how about it folks?

Spot on RebelsRUs.

The High Street would be great, but few shops display anything other than their own latest offers---doers anyone work there and want to exert some influence?

Newsagents often charge 50p per week for a postcard----the fixture posters are good but large, could cost a fortune. However if you know the newsagent they will often place it for free--my local newsagent has done this. Can anyone else get some posters placed?

As well as suggestions for where to put them, I have made some suggestions as to the format of an A4 poster and how we might be able to produce them. I think the issue, RebelsRus, is that we need to be coordinated about this. There are people like me who are prepared to do things, but we should not go and do just what we think and then find the Trust Board is saying that they wish we hadn't done it that way!

So perhaps we need members of the Board designated to OK what people are prepared to do. I am quite happy to take on getting quotes ad then getting the A4 poster backgrounds printed, but do we have the cash? I am prepared to make a donation towards it but not pay it all, so if it involves expenditure, we need somebody to OK it.

So if one member of the board took responsibility for PR, another for Promotional activities, another for Activities, and these were published on the site, then they could call for volunteers to do things and volunteers would know who to contact to offer their services. A list of people prepared to do things and what they would be prepared to do would also be useful for theBoard, I am sure.

There is plenty of good will, we just need to make sure that somebody is coordinating it all otherwise we will all end up going off on different tracks and losing the impact and direction. We don't want to end up as well organised as the FA PR machine!!!!!

If the Board is snowed under, maybe they need to coopt a few people prepared to help, with particular things who have particular skills or interests?

I like your idea Andrew. All I will say is that Gary and Emma already have lots of these (very nice) A3 sized full colour posters complete with a picture of last seasons team and all the first team and reserve fixtures and Capital League fixtures for the forthcoming season.

All they need is to be put up somewhere so Joe Public can see them.
