hi was at the game today and looked pretty solid to me and the news was described as 'all good' from thursdays meeting so lets all look up and move forward i think we could be serious promotion contenders this season considering ck has managed [so far] to keep hold of many key players and also noticed, apart from rocky's new hair do [looks like roi ferdinand now with an impressing afro look]that a certain mr stadhart was playing and scored one also greg oats with a fine free kick straight into the top right hand side of the goal and also an impressive display by a guy who i am not too sure of his name but the overall game today was a good ndisplay from the gate 3-0

JK was also excellent at Tonbridge. I move to Lincolnshire on Monday, so chances to see the boys will be few and far between. Hopefully we will get back in national Conf soon. Will be keeping in touch via this forum, after all now in my 26th year of watching/following Gate and after a pre season where I thought it was all over, any kind of decent season will be a bonus.

Been to all three games this week and seen the results of some great work by the management team and players. Congratulations to them all and to those supporters who also made each trip.

At today's (Ashford) game I spent some time speaking with an Ashford supporter who was impressed with what the Gate has done and is looking forward to watching us while we are there.

Let's hope those that were missing today will make the effort to get to the games starting next week.

Maybe we might pick up some local Ashford folks who can't go to their away games and come along for the footy.

No offence to Ashford but we are playing at a higher level and this may attract some keen local footy fans.

I had a chat too with an Ashford stalwart and he was very supportive of us. The whole set up appears very welcoming, and I hope as many Gate fans as can can go, because gate revenue will be vital whilst the ground situation gets sorted.

On a lighter note, the beer is better but I do miss the Crabble chips, which were much better than the Ashford ones!

Managed Tonbridge and Erith but not today.

Who played

Who of potential new players impressed.

Have we got anyone with height and strenght in attack, midfield defence as apart from Duku(was he there today ) we look very lightweight.

Agree JK been outstanding in the friendlies,as has Green and Moses

realy impressed second 1/2 with the back 5. Oates and Green at the back/going forward (Oates goal Beckam like) Duku, (onright) Bill (in centre and sweeping) Barratt (on the left. Had a real solid organised look to it and can only get better as they play together. Keeper was again commanding his area and had one kick that reached into the opposite penalty area(and that on a long pitch). Does any one know the extent of peter Benevides's injury.I hope it's not bad.I still think we need to improve upfront. JK and Ac worked hard, both class. The old saying of get the back line right and the rest will follow looks set to be put into practice. ONLY ONE WAY TO GO AND THATS ONWARDS AND UPWARDS.COME ON THE GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE.

Thought we did pretty well yesterday, although as I'm not exactly the biggest Che Stadhart fan it was a bit of a shock to see him back. Have to take issue with Steve Wells' report about the first goal - "Stadhart rose to head home". No he didn't !! Adrian Clarke swung a corner over, Aaron Barnett rose highest and got an excellent header in which was 99.5% in the net before Che pinced the goal by plunging to head home from about 1 inch out !

Barnett looked good alongside Duku - we seemed very solid at the back and I only remember Ashford having one shot which was well saved by Ward. A quick look on the net revealed that Barnett was at Bishops Stortford last season - players player of the year. Don't know how CK finds these players but he looked good - he also scored the second goal, an almost identical header to his / Che's first.

Best goal was Greg Oates' free kick, it looked like Adrian Clarke was going to take it but he dummied the ball and Greg picked his spot in the top corner with the keeper rooted to the spot.

We should have had a fourth when Moses Jjunju ran through, Che virtually took the ball off him and then decided to pass the ball back to the keeper, rather than scoring. I assume that's what he was doing as you couldn't call it a shot.

Took quite a few photos yesterday and if any come out ok I'll stick them on my website and let you know.

Rocky Baptiste now looks like this -

For anybody interested, Sam didn't play for Brentford yesterday.

Whats going on?

Shearer, Porter and Saunders playing for us and Duku, Barnett and Stadhart playing for you...the worlds gone mad.

Frank and Aaron where pretty much responsible for us winning the Rymans and while we went up on the back the best defence in the league Che banged in a few goals too.

Good luck for the season and with the ground.

Just been trying to work out who was who yesterday - who the trialists were.

I'm guessing the bloke who came on for Benevides and looked a bit like him was probably Charalambous - no idea who he might be but there seems to be lots of Cypriot / Greek players with that surname on the net.

Pat Gradley (ex Gravesned & QPR) was there but didn't come on.

John Keister was replaced by a young black bloke who seemed to be called 'Simba' - possibly Simba Aberdeen ? I found somebody with that name on the Trinidad & Tobago website who's 17 and that seemed about right age-wise.

Can't find anything about Hussain the goalkeeper.

Aaron Barnett played for Kingstonian and Gravesend before joining Bishops Stortford for 03/04.

Another mystery black bloke came on near the end and played on the left - he's possibly Ngonsou but can't find anyone with that name on the net.

Or the Ngonsou listed in Steve Wells' report could be the bloke who's first name is Sylvester - he played against Erith up front and looks a bit like a thinner Sigere. He was there yesterday but didn't come on.

Hope the reports of the players are not too premature as i guess no-one is under contract yet.?

Possible back line of Oates(although he is more of a midfield player these days),Barneet, Edwards and find of the season Green looks promising.

Poses question of where does (the new club captain ?) Annon .To my mind easy-play him in front of defence in a Leberl -defensive midfield role-think he would be great there as his distribution is good and could break down alot of attacks. We need some muscle in midfield and Aaron could provide it .

Look lightweight up front but glad to see Che there-much better than Pulman-he has got some strength, and its a new season so slate wiped clean and take it as a positive that he is being 'greedy'.Think he would get at least 15 goals in conf. south.

For home matches would be tempted to play 3 up front-Moses to give pace, Che and Rocky.

No more sign of Carl Hutchings i take it.looked ok but not senseational at Tonbridge with a reasonable pedigree and a bit of muscle on him.

Of course none or all of these may sign but to play 'Ron ManaGER' MY START LINE UP AGAINST Bognor would be :

Ward

Barnett Edwards Duku Green

Oates

Annon

Keister Clarke

Jjunju or Beneviedes or gradley

Baptiste Stadhardt

can't work out who is best out of Beneviedes or Gradley.

Think we need another midfield player(why did Abbott go-he was quality for Erith- and tall/strong striker-wish Watson was still on the scene

keister

[color:"blue"]To continue the Jeff Trice detective trail - Peter Benevides played for the superbly named Rhode Island Stingrays in the 'Atlantic 10 Conference'.

Regarding the 'keeper .. there was a 'Turkish trialist' keeper called Nejbet Hussein who played for Accrington Stanley the day before the Erith game... could be him.

KR said on Radio Kent interview after match that CK was not doing the interview as he was talking to players with a view to signing.
