Mystery Consortium

Recommended Posts

I have to agree that it is hard to understand exactly why this "group" have chosen to speak ONLY to the local press and have apparantly bypassed the STST completely.

This sudden altruism by a group of top secret mysterious benefactors leaves me highly suspicious as to who is behind it and what their motives are.

Alarm bells also rang for me with all this emphasis on "the council" getting this and doing that.......

Trojans/Greeks/whatever - include in that "people of Dutch extraction" and I think you won't be too far off the truth.

In my ever humble opinion......

Sounds very mysterious to me... I'd be very very interested (as would everyone else) to hear exactly how these 'Friends of Slough Town', if they actually exist, plan to help us back to Wexham Park, and under STFC's terms - because as we all know, Wexham Park is not a long-term viable option for us if it's not under our terms and if we can't get a tenancy of longer than 7 years.

Roge, thanks for the mention. I'm still no fan of Deaner, but you can't argue against the fact that he has kept us going.

As for this new consortium, there is no mention of any funding, just talk of the ground and name of the club going back to the ownership of Slough Borough Council.

I'd be interested to hear more news on it, but would still prefer Martyn's options at this present moment in time. If there is some news in the Observer about it tomorrow, it will add more weight to the story, but I'm very apprehensive about it at the moment.

I must admit Paul, I am very surprised to see you posting on this forum, conversing with people who you have described as 'often nasty, very aggressive, rude, arrogant and uncompromising supporters' on the thisisslough forum (added for Ted and so I don't waste my 4000th post with it) LINK

No one has contacted us (STST) re this proposal, surprise surprise.... who (if) MD goes , would he sell the club too ??? The Trust First I bet !! so these secret consortium members had better talk to us, Smells of a political trick....

If Wexham Park and the consortium are Real, why all the cloak and dagger thing !!!!

And remember Wexham Park is owned by Byrone and Alan Thorne, and will require a 7 year tenyer plus the option to re new.....

Difficult that one, Plus funding of up to 150,000 to maintain a resonable team....in a reasonable league....

If not the trust will have to do its best and get working very very hard to keep our club alive...

SEE YOU ALL TONIGHT AT THE POLISH ASSOCIATION FOR THE OPEN MEETING At 7-30 THURSDAY 5TH AUGUST !!!!

---------------------------------------------

cheers Chris S.

BTW .....Observer again has caught R Stokes telling porky pies....!!!!

Who does he think he is.....!!!!!!

Apologies from the paper ??? I don't think so....

but he told us all last week he had !!! and also told Martyn Deaner in the private meeting too !

Also still claims he was miss quoted !!

NO FOOTBALL STADIUM IN BRITWELL !!!!

Well thats what his got ! a stadium of 1500 is a faclity not a Stadium !!!! No good for progress or vision.....

Anyhow water under the bridge...Britwell will now get on with its own life once more.......

and the football club can also move forward too...

Hear, hear, PJC, "Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes"!!

They call themselves friends of Slough Town, is that Slough Town or Slough Town Football Club?

Councillor Janik denies any knowledge, which is interesting.

Is there a Slough Express Idiotorial (Whoops - Editorial!) email address we can contact and ask them directly who they spoke to?

I suppose that an outside possibility is the Thornes - they need to make something from the stadium and they don't like Martyn Deaner and would have reason to like the council, having just been able to buy the freehold for a song....... And the Council may want to call in a few favours, which they would not want to admit, hence Councillor Janik's "me no speakee English" contribution.

Here endeth Conspiracy Theory number 3!!!!

Methinks he hath hitteth ye nail on ye head, verily.

No-one else has spotted this, have they?

The name of this consortium is 'Friends of Slough Town'...

...no mention of a football club, is there?

I smell a rat...

Andrew,

I have no knowledge about the mysterious and strange newspaper article in the Express.

If you know of any "favours" owed to the council I think you should put them in the public domain.

I wonder if the club's closest councillor Rob Anderson is involved in the Friends of Slough Town or whatever they are called. Cllr Anderson does seem to know lots of things about STFC and he is always getting advanced copies of important publications. Why not ask Rob and find out what is going on?

Why don't you ask him yourself?

It's you, not him we distrust.
# He doesn't go around making false comments such as "often nasty, very aggressive, rude, arrogant and uncompromising supporters" He tells the truth, unlike you.

£300,000 I heard for 42 or 46 acres. That deal was done by the previous administration (running the Town hall for the past 21 years) so you might like to ask the local Labour Party for an explanation. It was their councillors who voted for the sell-off.

It does seem a strange decision for the Labour-run council to flog-off the council owned football stadium to a property developer. If that had not happened STFC would not be playing at Stag Meadow. I know some of you don't want to be reminded of what has happened in the past but those strange decisions are responsible for the current mess.

Well, Councillor Janik, I am sure even you will admit that we Slough Fans on this Forum and in the Trust have shown we are totally bemused by this Group, Friends of Slough Town. If Councillor Anderson is associated with it, it is a surprise to us, and that seems to be a very strange way to be a friend! In any case, I don't think that the last controlling party was any more helpful to the club than the current controlling coalition - our problem is that we have to work with whoever is there, whatever the political affiliation.

So, please forgive us our suspicious natures, if we think that somebody is trying to tweak our tails, but we don't have a lot to show for the support that has been professed by the political parties in Slough, of whatever persuasion.

There are a lot of football supporters in Slough, many of whom support other clubs particularly in the Football League and the Premiership, which is why they do not come to our games, but they do understand that clubs like Slough are the seedcorn of the National Game, and they do not want to see Slough Town FC disappear. Just see how many came along to the really big games we have made! Sir Bobby Robson and many other major managers recognise the value of the contribution of the non-league clubs and have said so publicly. It is a shame that for all the talk, from our local politicians (and this is aimed at all of you in local government, in South Bucks as well as Slough, with the problems with planning permissions at Wexham) your statements of support are nothing more than wind. No wonder Rennies were always made in Slough! No wonder less and less people are bothering to vote - people have noticed it is all wind!

A stadium capable of supporting a club at our level is sitting idle at Wexham Park. What have any of you done to ACTUALLY talk to the owners and help us to resolve the issues? Lots of statements that you will, but nobody has EVER contacted the Trust (or as far as we are aware the Club Management) and said, I (we) have spoken to Mayfair Communications and am (are) prepared to broker a meeting, with the Club or the Trust to try and resolve the situation.

So, please don't come on here with your insinuations and empty promises unless you genuinely want to help and not just try to wind us up and make political capital out of our misfortune. We already KNOW how much you hate the Labour party. The Trust members don't want to go to the Britwell and upset people, nor do we want to sponge off the council. All we want is for you to agree to help us to find a ground somewhere - (anywhere in the Borough)- and you control the planning permissions and the land - appropriate to the requirements placed upon us by the Football Authorities and which will allow us to fund the club by our own donations and fundraising activities. If that is Wexham Park, fantastic - we can go home!

All we have seen in the last few weeks is the contempt and insults that politicians of all persuasions have demonstrated to the club, where scoring your inconsequential political points matters more than helping an organisation which has been operating in the Borough for over 100 years, and which has behaved itself honourably and brought recognition to the Town.

If this is the Slough of the future, heaven help us all!

Well now, I myself, wonder why you have chosen to suddenly stick Rob Anderson's name in the middle of all this? Do you have any reason to do so or are you just stirring it (OMG, surely not <img src="/images/graemlins/bigshock.gif" alt="" />)

Perhaps the reason Cllr Anderson "knows things" about STFC is possibly because he takes the time and trouble to find out facts rather than rely on the sensationalised rumours, half truths and scare mongering tactics emplyed on a distressingly regular basis by others. Perhaps Cllr Anderson approaches matters in a straightforward, up-front fashion rather than resorting to subterfuge, confidentiality clauses and secret hush-hush meetings in car parks?

Why not add a few more random names to the list of people who "might" know what is going on - while we're at it lets ask Ulrika Johnson, Prince William, Bob The Builder and Michelle from Big Brother. Perhaps it's them behind the Secret Squirrel consortium?
