At last! Some real news! [No. 158]

While queuing in the newsagents to collect my copy of 'The Literary Review', I glanced at the back page of The Observer.

The Manager was disappointed that the Hitchin game was cancelled as he was intending to have a look at Gary Crawshaw [no reference to the work committments that may have kept him out last season, or even the hamstring which definitely did] and a triallist released by Grays, Ellis Hamzi [sp?].

McBreen may not be available at the start of the season [see last week's news] and Lee Clarke wont be available for the first game as he has been called into the N. Ireland U21 squad. "It's not a problem," said SC "as Adam Parker and Matt 'Matty' Hann can play up front if required". [Phew, that's a relief. I was beginning to worry for a moment at that point.]

The final part made me chuckle. Craigy Rydeheard has been released as we are looking at Parys Okai and there's no room for two attacking left sided/footed wide midfield players in the side. [That's not the bit that made me chuckle. This bit did:] We are having a look at Spencer Knight who has been released by Canvey Island. Perhaps someone should mention to 'the powers that be' that Spencer Knight is an attacking left sided/footed wide midfield player.

Oh yes. We are playing a Charlton Athletic XI on Satuurday.

Err. That's it.
