Aveley 0-2 Billericay

Recommended Posts

Decent performance tonight, once we got used to a fairly poor pitch, that saw a few dodgy bounces, particularly out wide. Robin Trott was fit to start with McSweeney moving to right back and Herrera pushed up to right midfield. Matt Game was also fit to start the game in midfield, but Hunter and Kerrigan both had knocks.

First half a little bit scrappy, tended to over elaborate in front of goal, Aveley bit of a long ball team. Scored the opening goal just before half time when Matt Game (decent first game if you ask me!) reacted first to an advantage from the ref, got to the by-line and crossed for Hockton to score.

Second half was all Billericay. Scored the second goal when Herrera drove in his second shot after his first effort had been blocked. Dormer should have won a penalty when chopped down and Wareham had a goal ruled out for handball and another saved by a diving keeper.

Team

McCarthy

McSweeney Trott Sappleton Henty

Herrera Game Dormer Quistin

Stowe Hockton

Subs

Wareham for Stowe

McNamara (ex Brentford) for Quistin

Gallagher for Herrera

Welton (ex Spurs Youngster) for Game

Jones for Hockton

I wonder who you mean Simon.......It was a decent effort I thought and we got better as the game went on. Aveley's manager is gonna have a coronory by Christmas if that's the way he carries on in a friendly.
Agree Game did well as did Wareham and McNamara when they came on. Good to see Hockers get a goal as well. I imagine we should have something approaching our first choice xi out against Redbridge on Saturday.

Still a few positions in our first xi up for grabs in my opinion....

McSweeney (assuming he signs), Sappleton Trott and Kerrigan obviously first picks at the back.

Dormer in centre mid but with Forbes injured not sure who will start alongside. Hunter probably favourite at present, but Game did well on Tuesday.

Out wide Cousins looks to have secured one of the positions. Gallagher hasn't set the world alight in pre-season and I reckon it's between him, Quistin and Herrera for the other position.

Up front either Wareham or Stowe to partner Hockers.

So, my XI is

McCarthy

McSweeney Sappleton Trott Kerrigan

Cousins Dormer Hunter Quistin

Hockton Wareham

Subs

Herrera, Game, Gallagher, Jones, Henty, Stowe
