Question for the technical lot among you...

Recommended Posts

Sometimes on CD singles, it includes the video that can be watched using the media player on your PC.

These files are usually either mpegs (?) or movie files. I think.

Is there anyway that one can convert these files using one's PC, into files that can be played back on a standard DVD Player??

Help, please!

(PS. Claire. Unless you know the answer, please do not contribute to this thread.)

Normally the enhanced CD with video on it has the software you need to play it.

If it's not there it will either need you to have quicktime or Windows Media Player. I think the normal weapon of choice is Quicktime though and that can be downloaded from the apple website.

It can't really be converted to a standard DVD, there are a number of issues.

1. The quality of the video will not be great, you often get the video at a quarter of the size on screen any larger and it will look nothing like what it should!

2. Your video on the CD is a lump of encoded data that requires software to made it play, even if you can convert it and that's doubtful, there's no way it would play on a standard home DVD player, they do not have that capacity to play something like that as it requires software.

3. Not many home DVD players play DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs

In other words, I wouldn't bother if I were you, though there's a good chance someone will know more than me!

You can buy DVD Authoring software which takes an MPEG as it's source. These are usually MPEG4 which are higher quality. I suspect the MPEGs you have are MPEG1. It is still feasible but buying the authoring software and understanding how to use it may make it impracticle.
