[Urchins]

A good game played in good spirit against a quality side. The crowd were treated to some fine football with chances at both ends but although a draw was fair, a couple of goals would have been nice.

 

Simon Wormull headed over from a far post cross in the first couple of minutes and in the 23rd minute Crawley's Robert Traynor headed wide from a great position. Then followed a couple of great chances for the home side. Traynor made a great run into the area in the 34th minute and passed inside for Charlie MacDonald who prodded the ball just wide. Four minutes later another surging run, this time from Danny Davidson who beat Mark Westhead, finished with Jamie Stuart clearing if not off the line but out of the path of an onrushing forward. A minute after that we found the net through Kirk Jackson but the effort was ruled out for offside.

 

There were many substitutions made in the second half from both sides but the flow of the game, which was played in searing heat, was not disrupted. The home side struck a free kick just over 5 minutes after the restart but 6 minutes later Crawley's Phil Smith had to react well to stop a Kirk Jackson header from a Damon Searle cross. On the hour Jackson was put through by a divine pass from Charlie Taylor but he seemed to hesitate just a moment too long and Smith was out quickly to block. In the 69th minute we found the net once more, this time through Lee Elam, but again it was ruled out for offside. Crawley's Richard Harris had a firm strike deflected over a minute later and Danny Shipp blasted over from a far post corner in the 72nd minute. Five minutes later at the other end Ian Simpemba headed over from a corner and in the final minutes John Martin volleyed just wide from just inside the area.
