Billericay 1-5 Canvey

Recommended Posts

First half ok second half not so good.....

First half we sent out what looked a strong XI with Sappers back in the side. He played 45 minutes, and as expected looked a little rusty but got some football which he needed! Poor marking from crosses was a problem today and we gave away 2 soft goals first half by not picking up Boylan. Neil Cousins looked our most likely to score and having missed a couple he stuck away an excellent effort to see the first half score 2-1 which I think was a touch harsh on us.

Second half we rested practically the whole team, and without Trott, sappleton or McSweeney ended up with Tommy Carr and Stuart Fergus at centre back..... Neither in their best position and neither would be likely to be in the squad by the time we get to Heybridge. Canvey took the opportunity to fill their boots a bit and ran in another 3 goals.

Teams

1st half

McCarthy

Herrera McSweeney Sappleton Kerrigan

Cousins Hunter Dormer Quistin

Hockton Wareham

2nd Half

McCarthy

Herrera Carr Foster Henty

Black Kanyuka Everitt Gallagher

Allen Jones

Also Fergus came on for Foster midway through the half.

Canvey were the better side first 25 although we gifted them both their goals with poor defending at set plays and Boylan always seems to be in the right place at the right time.(how can anyone be so lucky for so long? - Relax CANV it's a gag). Last 20 of the first half we played well and deserved our goal. With a bit of luck we could have gone in level.

We put out the trialists in the second half and although we contributed to our own downfall by playing poorly Canvey could have scored any amount.

I think that this game will have helped a lot with deciding which of the fringe players we will keep and although I'd gloss over the scoreline rather swiftly, still a worthwhile exercise for us.

Not a question of luck just having good instincts and being able to read certain situations before they've even happened. That's what makes a good striker.

Thought it looked very encouraging for the season ahead. Let's face it, Canvey are a high class side and Billericay more than matched them for long periods in the first half. I saw many quality players on display, incomparably better than last season.

I agree we look a great bet at 8-1 and all I need to do now is work out how to get my dough on.

Great to see the pitch in such good condition, and the changes being made to the Club House etc.

Looks to me as though Steve Kent is going to make an excellent Chairman; his commitment deserves to succeed and I've no doubt it will.

Don't worry about playing at this comparatively low level, it will only be for one season. It will be successful and people will want to watch. I predict avarage crowds which will be higher than many Conference outfits...a minimum of 700 average.

Alice, how are you? Nice to see you pitched up and are making some encouraging noises.

And (hold your breath people), I would agree with all that you have said.

Pitch is looking great, clubhouse will look better, Steve is dragging all of us "kicking and screaming" into the 21st Century (with a respectful eye on our past history) and also giving the club back to the community as well as building to a bright future.

Best wishes and looking forward to great season!!!

I'm really looking forward to meet our new chairman. It will be a bit strange not se Rod around as I'm used to him, but I'm sure Steve is a great guy too. And I'm really looking forward to the the alterations on the clubhouse and the pitch!

I've worked my way through the intricacies of Bet365 and had 8 fifties. Confident I'll draw £450 next April/May time. Great value when you look at the prices offered for Man U; Arsenal; and Chelsea for the Premiership.

And we've got inside knowledge about what's happening at BTFC that the Bookie chaps have not. Fill yer boots. Going to be a great season.
