I fear you have had limited advice only to date JKIF. Young's vast canon could be split as follows:

(i) 1967-73: pleasant C&W inflected folk acoustics - best examples probably are After the Goldrush and Harvest, though the two Buffalo Springfield LPs are worth hearing.

(ii) 1974 - 1980: classic Crazy Horse period where Neil electrifies a little. You can't go wrong with any from Zuma, Time Fades Away, On The Beach, Tonight's The Night, Rust Never Sleeps (even Live Rust), American Stars'n'Bars or Hawks and Doves. OTB and H&D have just been released on CD for the first time and lots of people are happy. 'Time Fades Away' from 1977 was a bizarre return to period (i) for reasons known only to NY himself.

(iii) 1981 - 1988: avoid at all costs period. NY was sued by his record company at the time for being 'deliberately uncommercial'. It's just tripe, I'm afraid. Ones to avoid include Everybody's Rockin' (rockabilly), Landing on Water, Trans (vocoded vocals), Old Ways, Life, This Note's For You.

(iv). 1989-to date: the return to form - starting with the manic Crazy Horse reunions of Freedom, Ragged Glory and the live Weld. Since then most stuff has had its merits.

If all were available on the 3 for £20 offer, I'd go for Zuma, Tonight's The Night and On the Beach.
