Enfield Town 4 Boreham Wood 2

Recommended Posts

A really good all round performance.

The team looks as strong as it has ever been with everyone working for each other. All goals were memorable first a Lee Smith volley from a Matt Negus cross. 2nd Matt Negus shot tipped onto the bar by the Boreham Wood goal keeper for Lee to bundle in. 3rd Dean Nyman run through and beat the goal keeper. 4th was by a trialist (number 17) (Jaquo Masala?) a chip over the goal keeper from a narrow angle on the edge of the goal area to the far post corner.

A really encouraging start taking account the Clacton game the squad that Jim has put together really want to play for each other. Truly heart warming.

This season is going to be interesting when you consider how we played our friendlies last year.

I couldn't agree more. This was the first friendly I have enjoyed since EFC played the scum in '98 and nearly beat them.

The team looked very fit, played as a unit, passed well and there was some good movement off the ball. Steph has under-stated Smith's first goal. It was a superb volley that Gazza in his hey-day would have been proud of! In the second half more trailists came on and we were put under more pressure, hence 'wood's second goal. However, this bodes very well for the forth-coming season.

Who else was dissapointed at the sight of the 'new playing surface'.

Yes there are no bare patches, and there is more grass coverage, but the surface is still uneven and bobbley and dusty and the grass is still straw-like. ETFC have had a better 'away record' than 'home record' every season since we were formed. I thought that might change this season, but i'm afraid that our home pitch will still cost us points.

My comments are in no way meaning to criticise Roy and Frank who i know have put in lots of hard work on the pitch, and the volunteer's who helped rake the topsoil or watered the pitch. But i'm afraid without spending big money, pitches like Brimsdowns are very difficult to improve.

Already the moaning starts ecevn afetr a superb win like last night's. We are all grateful to Roy, Frank and the boys and girls for all the hard work and time they have put in to get the facilities and pitch to a better standard than last year.

It would cost in the region of £50,000 to get the Brimmo pitch upto standard which would include drainage and a top quality water supply. Please do not think you could get it any cheaper because I have first hand knowledge of this.

Let's make the best of what we have and get on with it.

Bit of good news last night was that we signed up a further 16 members for the Society and another 6 season tickets were sold.

Membership now stands at 205 with 76 season tickets sold.

Craig Gravis won the raffle for those becoming members or buying season tickets and there will be another raffle during the Hornchurch game. Southport Towner will be trying to relieve you of your money at that game.

Don't forget that you can also join the lottery at any time of the year.
