Ramsgate v Margate

Though Ramsgate won 3-1 things are possibly not all doom and gloom. The side we put out was very strong, though you have to wonder which of those were also trialling elsewhere yesterday.

Pat Mullin (ex-Margate, at Herne Bay last year)

Greg Oates

Mark Green

Bill Edwards

Wesley Hammond (ex-Margate, at Herne Bay last year)

Darren Annon

John Keister

Adrian Clarke

Rocky Baptiste

Ian Pulman

Peter Benvides

Subs

Fred Belade

Moses Jjunju

Victor Ighedosa

Silvesta Nnuhudi

Several other un-named

Kesiter, Clarke, Green and Baptiste went off

Belade, Jjunju were the only two of the four who came on I recognised

Rocky got our goal, at 3-0 down, with a header. All in all it was a fairly promising perfomance, bar the first 20 mins of the second half when Ramsgate got their goals. Margate had the most chances but other than Pulman hitting the bar with a first half header none were really threatening.

What does anyone know about Benvides and Green (both seemed good).

The tallish sub for Keister in the second half hardly put a foot right so we won't see him again.

Pretty clear that Stadhart has gone or very much hopes to.

To me, result irrelevant.

fact is we put out a team, ,7 of whom have conference experience, so agree, all is not doom and glom on playing front.

Of those who were trialling, does anyone know anything about them.

Who stood out among the 'triallists'

Out of trialists, number 3, 6 & 12 really looked like they deserved contracts.

If we sign that goal keeper, Pat Mullin, we will soon be joining Dover, not worth the paper his contract would be written on.

Defence NEEDS WORK, Edwards and Annon looked poor, maybe lacking match fitness?

Who were 3,6 and 12 then?

Wonder where Venter has gone to?

Rumour was we signed Ighedosa from Buckingham Town about March last year-all very weird>

I assume number 12 was Peter Benvides.

As for 6 & 3, could they have been Mark Green and ?Wesley Hammond? I believed Wesley was a forward, yet it was Pullman and Baptiste who started up front.

As for Pullman, he's to small to play at this level, he couldn't even win the ball from Ramsgate. We need a big striker.

Reasons to be cheerful...

Rocky. Clarkey, Edwards, Keister, Annon, Oates, Pullman and Jjunju still with us. Made my day seeing them.

3, 6 and especially 12 looked likely, also liked the look of 17. Did not think the goal keeper was bad, took a couple of good saves.

Nice sunny day, boys in blue on the field, good to see they were doing some sharp passing on the ground. Gave away posession at times but they are not match sharp yet so would expect that, and tackles, to improve.

Rocky's goal beautifully set up in the build up and finished with a lovely header from a Moses cross.

It's the first friendly for goodness sake, I saw nothing that would cause me to think that we will not have a good team to start the season. Need better standard of fitness and a beefier defence, but it takes time to gell a team so give them a chance.

Agree-size certainly matters in the conference.

Its not often that big, strong, tal teams lose;even if lacking in skill.

Watson would have been a sensation in conference south.

Wonder where Abbot has gone-i always rated him.

Good to be talking football though-pity there is not another friendly until 3 August-getting in the mood again.

Agree with Steve Ball's summing up. Score was irrevalent as we should have buried them long before. However the defence needs someone who can get their head to the ball as crosses, as of last year have been our downfall. That certainly needs tightening up. Good to see the oldies of last year still sticking with us, Oates, Baptiste,Keister(ish),Edwards and especially Clarke. All looked ring rusty so score did not reflect the days play. The difference in class was still there even though we had trialists out there. Moses looked real good but the no: 17, though extremely fit continued to dally on the ball when easier passes were on. Seemed to want to beat someone first before playing the ball. Good or bad the play was very similar to last years play so take from that what you will. Highly encouraging first game. Sort that defence out with an energetic tall guy, get a keeper of better class and that might solve that problem. Hammond played well too today. Altogether not displeased at all and again I repeat the score didn't reflect the play. Our last ball and woeful finishing let us down but that will get better obviously. No dissapointments from the afternoons play whatsoever. Not a bad crowd either, around the 300-ish mark i.m.o.Good to see some fellow fans again too.Watch out for good news next week I'm told too, though how many times has that needle got stuck.

Thanks for confirming that Harold I thought I saw Abbott in the dugout with the subs, perhaps he has a fitness problem or something.

Oh and isn't it great to be able to discuss football matters, performance of the team, debate the merits of various players and all that? Makes me feel better, for one.

So if all last seasons players who were in attendance sign, then thats 8 players with conference national experience.

i guess itmay not be the end of the world, and that sort of team should be good enough for mid-table in conf south which is all i'm hoping for and expecting this coming season but it would do.

Not really alot of point trying to compete with Hornchurch and Weymouth.

200 i think tony you are being very pesxsimistic with 100 i think . Remember us exiles count for thirty or forty and its nearer for most of us. Essential that we all support the team despite all the agro and contraversy.

From what everyone has said it seems that this was a good performance which i am happy about good to hear that rocky is still about if we can keep him we will be fine.

As for the future would the 8 players with conference experience still be here if we werent going to carry on.

Hope cookies news next week is good but as he says himself we have heard that before.

Not MY news but news! Where from I dont know and about what I dont know but assume its to do with the ground. Was given a hint of this so wont push the fact to much in case we again hear nothing which would be more likely. However its a little something to maybe look forward to but again I stress dont hope for too much, if anything. Source was quite good though so shall we lift our hopes just a little bit eh? AGAIN!!!

So back to football, does anyone know background/ex-clubs/pedigree of the trialists.

As Moses came on as sub at burton, guess we may even have 9 players with conf. national experience, albeit you have to admit that all the players who would walk into any conference side have left.

But again, if they do sign contracts for 2004/5, it could be worse on the playing front.
