Statement From Roy Merryweather

My thoughts at this moment of time are with the hearts of all supporters in trying to gain any assurances of this current season ever taking place. The past two days have once again emphasised the true loyalty we have in supporting our cause. In a way of trying to explain the situation, I have set out six basic points by which the fans of the club can see for themselves the true picture of events.

Following a statement issued by Cllr Richard Stokes last evening.

Amendment to Agenda Item 8 – to consider motions submitted by Members under Procedure Rule 13

That the paragraph headed-

Furthermore, this Council resolves to honour its HISTORIC OBLIGATION to ensure that a football club with a status commensurate with the size of the town. Continues to bear the BADGE OF SLOUGH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

And replaced with the following.

This council; regrets that the Labour group did not express its commitment to

SLOUGH TOWN Football Club in any practical and effective way, during two decades when it controlled the council.

This Council regrets that discussions were held in secret, no comprehensive records of discussions were maintained, contradictory promises were made to different organisations, and so called agreements were never submitted to the Council for open discussion and consideration.

This council regrets that suggestions to find a permanent home for Slough Town Football Club were arbitrarily rejected without any analysis or consideration BECAUSE THEY ORIGINATED FROM opposition Councillors.

Not withstanding these past failings by the Labour Group. This council resolves to meet representatives of S.T.F.C. to discuss the problem openly with a view to reaching a practical solution.

My personal observation on these matters are as follows;

Hard deep thinking by our Chairman Martyn Deaner is needed even to consider making a complete u-turn in support of our Club.

Slough Town Football Club has become a political football, being bounced around by local politicians in Slough Borough Council with no consideration to its supporter base.

The Independent Party together with the Conservatives and Liberal elected members of our town have co-operated together to vote against even the thought of allowing the feasibility study centralised on Kennedy Park and surrounding area’s to continue under the current remit of Martyn Deaner.

Last evening, elected people regarding the merits of sound judgement submitted by football club personnel only 24 hours previously told lies.

Cllr Stokes has misled his immediate followers with misguided comments, with no background knowledge being sought in regards to the problems of the Football Club, just a strong desire to undo any good work by the present Labour movement

Finally our local papers will have a field day this weekend reporting in TRUTH the pathetic way in which the current administration is beginning its term of office at the town hall.

To summarise everybody please keep calm, every thing possible is being carried out to safe guard our season. The team is coming along brilliantly, Eddie, Mickey and Kevin are getting on with match fitness and team organisation.

ONLY this Fridays match has still not been finalised, Windsor’s Stag Meadow being not fit to play. Alternative grounds are being sought. A final decision will be made 12o’clock Thursday and will be here on the forum as soon as a decision is made.

Other pre-season matches will go ahead as scheduled.

Slough has a wonderful reputation of behaviour; let’s show the people of the Town they have a Club they should be proud of.[/b[]
