Bognor etc

For very understandable reasons there has been no update on Friendlies this week. There appeared to be confusion as to whether Bognor is on or off this Friday---a possibility of an alternative venue was even mentioned.

Do we assume that there is no game on Friday and that the first open door friendly ia Beaconsfield next Tuesday?

Incidentally thanks and well done to all those who have given so much time and effort this week with the recalcitrant council. Unfortunately many of us are not able to join these efforts due to business commitments but we do appreciate the endeavours of those that do.

Thanks Graham.

Nothing was confirmed to me yesterday regarding the Bognor fixture, but at this late stage I personally do not think it will take place. Therefore the first friendly would be the match at Beaconsfield next week as you have indicated.

If a decision is made whereby the fixture with Bognor does go ahead, it will be published here straight away.

Just been having a little think... we see non-league clubs arrange 'money-spinning' friendlies against full-strength Premiership or 'Championship' sides, and I just get the impression that this would have been a great boost for the STST's coffers. Imagine a strong Premiership team coming to Stag Meadow, attracting a crowd of lets say 1,000+, and with the fans paying, say £8 to get in (slightly over the odds for a friendly, but advertised as a match that would help the Club). I know it's a bit late for all this now, but was it talked about?

As I understand, to get the chance of playing a Premiership side, you must be in contact with them from around March time. Given that all the 'big' names appear to take their first eleven swanning off around the Far East and America almost purely on merchandising reasons as well, this decreases the chances.

The other thing is, it doesn't really do anything for the players as such. Look at Barnet the other day. The may have got a big crowd in (don't know the attendance) against Arsenal, but they got thumped 10-1. The players were a bit shellshocked really.

It has it's good and bad points. Third Division and Conference sides at home is a more realistic aim. Decent crowd, and a much better work out for both sets of players.
