The Bees' album comes highly recommended from me. Tails off a bit towards the end, but the first seven tracks are excellent. Also, listen out for the last track - a blatant Rubber Soul-era Beatles soundalike!

Well Zeal, you'll be pleased to know that the Polyphonic Spree album is very good! However, my favourite out of the ones I bought is without doubt The Bees. You should definitley buy that, I'd think you'd like it. Very up-beat, kind of funky tunes on there. I liked Grham Coxons album as well although I haven't given it a thorough going over yet! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

 

oh yeah and the 2 many DJs one is ace as well!

Well I've heard the Bees album and think it's jolly good too, but it sounds like a 60's album, but very worth getting.

 

As for Shatner, I still can't make up my mind...

When you say "60's", is there a band in particular they sound like, or is it just a 60's 'vibe'??

 

I bought the 22-20's single - sounds just like 1965/66-era Kinks! Superb!!

Yeah, I'd say it sounds a bit like the Byrds really. But I think there's something about it, in the way it was produced sounds really authentic, as if you would not be able to tell if it had been produced now or 40 years ago, that sounds odd, but when you listen to the album you'll see what I mean, there's no modern instrumentation, sophisticated mixing or anything like that.

Yeah, I know what you mean. That 22-20's single has the same effect.

 

Best one for the authentic retro sound was an EP I bought in 1992 by a band called The Stairs. Absolutely brilliant, all recorded in mono, and could easily have been recordings made in the mid-sixties.
