Dead clubs

Recommended Posts

Thought it might be useful propaganda to have a list of clubs that have lost their ground over the past 20 years and then gone out of existance, to hammer home that the threat is very real if we remain homeless for ever.

Off the top of my head i can think of

Wokingham Town, Dartford, Maidstone, Hillingdon Borough, AP Leamington....any more?

And merged with other Clubs.... Hillingdon Borough merged with Burnham and "Burnham and Hillingon" lasted only a short time before Burnham re-asserted their name, so much for mergers.

A new Hillingdon Borough did emerge to play in much lower leagues - another warning

Surely the best example of the lot is Wimbledon?

Lost the ground, the Council are too damned stupid to help them return to the Borough after an extended period of groundsharing and they end up losing their identity and moving many miles away.

Try adding Bedford to the list!!!!!

Bedford are still here, took a few years to reform but reform we did and not far off where we once were with regards to the level we're playing at, the league has the same name but the restructuring means its slightly lower in the overall scheme of things.

AP Leamington started playing again in 2000 (as Leamington FC but the same club) on a farm a bit out of town. Waay down the leagues but have had amazing support (in the first season about 650 average and 1,200 for one match, this at level 11 of the pyramid!)
