Council Meeting - Monday 19 July - 19:00 hours

Recommended Posts

Cllr Richard Stokes, Leader of the Council, has asked me to invite as many Slough Town football supporters as possible to Monday evening's meeting starting at 19:00 in the council chamber.

Cllr Stokes says you will have more opportunity at Monday's meeting to express your concerns, make observations and take part in the discussions.

Cllr Stokes is not suggesting you do not also attend Tuesday's meeting beginning at 19:00. At Tuesday's meeting you will have no opportunity to talk and ask questions because of council regulations (a legacy of the previous Labour administration).

Cllr Stokes has received many telephone calls from fans. Some were most constructive and helpful - in particular those from Banny, Warren and Mike Lightfoot. Regrettably a minority were very abusive and deeply offensive.

As I understood it, this was to be a meeting between Richard Stokes and the Board of the Supporters Trust.

First they give the options/agenda to the press, now they appear to be moving the goalposts once more (excuse the pun). Why is it that Councillor Stokes had not extended the invitation to this meeting himself, apparently getting a councillor from outside the ruling group to do so? Perhaps as Cllr Stokes seesm to get himself in trouble every time he speaks he has been silenced by the council he leads?

At this rate we'll end up in the Dog and Duck league, but at least that would be better run than the council is by this new administration

Thank you BFR. I am quite happy for the Trust board to put the views across, and am somewhat dubious of the late attempt to make it into something else. I can see the arguement now---"Not many of you here are there?" Beware Trojans bearing gifts.

Even in this gift there are barbs--if this was truly a friendly offer it would neither have made allegations about abusive phone calls, nor had the ending of attacking Labour, which is an obvious political act in itself. I smell a not very well disguised rat.

I am sure that all are aware its the Supporters day out to Bournemouth today, so many supporters won't read the thread until late this evening--too late probably to make arrangements for tomorrow. If the Board had wanted us to attend, they would have said so.Many supporters do not have internet access, and won't know about the offer at all. All this makes me concerned thats its a devious attempt to wrong foot the trust.

I can only speak for myself, but I think a "No thank you" is the apporopriate response unless the Trust members say otherwise.

I also note that the meeting at 19.00 on Monday is supposed to be the Labour group - clearly this suggests to me that Cllr Janik is stirring the pot once more and trying to make a political issue out of Slough Town Football Club. If he wants to pick a fight with the Labour group then he is welcome to do so, but that is not the aim of us as supporters of this club. We want to see the football team back in Slough where it belongs.

I am sick of this club being used as a political football.

I doubt that Cllr Stokes can do much more than float a few suggestions at the mneeting. He really can't decide anything without the Conservatives agreement. I spoke to one of their councillors yesterday, and they have not yet had a chance to discuss events as a group since their last meeting on 5th July.

If Cllr Stokes really wants to speak to the fans, suggest he turns up a bit earlier on Tuesday, its not as if he's got a job or anything to get in the way.

This "invitation" does sound a little on the unusual side. It poses more questions than it answers.

Did Cllr Stokes only think of inviting the "ordinary" fans at the last minute? Didn't the fact that the fans may have opinions occur to him until now?

If the invitation is genuine, its timing is going to be inconvenient to some, as not everyone who would like to attend is going to be able to do so with such little notice.

Why has Cllr Stokes chosen Cllr Janik as his mouthpiece on this occasion? Cllr Janik is no longer part of the BILLD, so why ask him to pass on this invitation? Granted, Cllr Janik has been involved in this business in his own inimitable style from the word go and is well known for his garrulous habits on the internet, but as I assume Cllr Stokes also knows pretty well by now who runs the STST, why did he not ask one of them to pass on this message?

I was also under the impression that the meeting was intended to be between the STST and Cllr Stokes, so how/why is Cllr Janik, who is not part of the STST or the BILLD involved now?

I would suggest we await further comments/clarification from those involved in the STST nefore making any plans for tomorrow evening.

Given the apparent lack of current British talent in this years Tour de France, I'm surprised that Councillor Stokes hasn't been put forward given the amount of back peddaling he's now doing.

I've always been told that Monday's meeting was with the Board of the Trust so I'm surprised a twelfth hour invitation has been extended to all fans, particularly from someone who chose not to be a part of the hotchpotch alliance. As has been pointed out, this reeks of political positioning and I do not suggest we join in with their little games.

We have put our faith in the Board of the Trust who will represent us on Monday and we'll be there Tuesday (day and evening) to let them know we are not going to go away.

I thought the Council Leader had made his position perfectly clear. He is of the opinion that the residents of Britwell do not want a stadium, he doesn't want a stadium and he will stop the feasibility study at the first opportunity. Or is he going to deny he said that?

P Janik (personally) said:
The meeting is intended to enable the mutual and benefical exchange of opinions between the supporters trust and the new council administration.

No fundamental decisions will be made at this meeting as this meeting may be the first in a series of meetings to tackle the issue.

I am more than a little confused by your reply which hasn't clarified anything at all.

We were all already aware that there was a meeting scheduled for tomorrow between the council and the board of the Supporters Trust.

What exactly has changed? Is the meeting now open to the public? Can anyone attend and speak, whether a member of the board of the Supporters Trust or not?

We also are aware that the board have already said that any outcome of the meeting will be subject to full discussion and approval of the board and will be referred to their solicitors. Therefore it necessarily follows that NO decisions will be immediately apparant following tomorrows meeting.

I am still waiting for clarification as to why Cllr Stokes has decided to use Cllr Janik to transmit his messages and would like to know whether Cllr Janik will be present at tomorrows meeting?

Bizarre. Not at all muddied the waters that has it?

I am also glad to hear that:

"No fundamental decisions will be made at this meeting as this meeting may be the first in a series of meetings to tackle the issue."

4 weeks till the start of the season Mr. Janik.
