Luton Town PSF last night.

Cool-hand Castle played a different XI in each half which included at least half-a-dozen 'new' names. From last season, in no particular order: Sargant, Zoricich, Seeby, Thomas, Campbell, Davis, Attwood, Butler, Jones, Wraight, Parker, De Souza, Jones.

No sign of Oakes or Neily Gough. No Crawshaw.

The 'known' new boys on display were Capleton, Robinson, Rydeheard, 'Matty' Hann, and Sarll.

Of the other triallists, the two strikers in the first half looked the part and generally everyone seemed to work pretty hard.

Luton? One rumour on the terraces was that they had sent 6 or so 1st team players, but I wouldn't have a clue. Murray Craig who is a season-ticket holder at Luton said that he didn't recognise many of them. They were a very good set of players clearly looking to impress Mick Harford and they won 6 or 7 to nil. Capleton made several good saves in the first half and Robbo didn't have a chance with the 3 excellent goals he conceded in the second.

A very good contingent down from up North in an excellent crowd of, perhaps 4/450 or so.

I remember the frustration expressed in the media when Sven fields 20 players for friendly games. I recognise that the manager has to have a look at a good number but I now know what they mean. It re-inforced my view of these kind of PSF's.

I thought that Clarence Park was not looking at its best.

I am led to believe that there were quite a few first teamers or those with first team experience - Beresford, Perrett, Neilson, Leary, Mansell, Brkovic to name a few.

Other notable visitors:

Rob Haworth (and apparently Del Mardel)

A selection of Luton players watching the game

Tim Sherwood in Stone Island

Eric Hall (no cigar)

Here is the verdict of the Luton jury...

Pre-season gets off to a good start

Luton Town made the short trip to St. Albans for their first pre-season friendly

and they marked their return to action with a 6-0 win.

St Albans' striker Martin Standen registered the home side's first shot on target

after six minutes when he flashed a shot across the goal and Marlon Beresford got

down to take the sting out of the shot with a one handed save.

After thirteen minutes Alex Meecham went close, heading just wide from Ahmet Brkovic's cross.

Ten minutes after that chance Luton opened the scoring when Brkovic spectacularly

gave Luton the lead. Stephen O'Leary had pulled the ball over from the left and

the Croatian sent a scissors kick into the bottom corner.

Two minutes after the first goal Michael Leary won a brave header in midfield and Brkovic was presented

with the chance to double his and Luton's tally, he skipped past the grounded Mel Capleton

and rolled the ball home.

Eight minutes before half-time substitute Courtney Pitt

latched onto an O'Leary through ball and scored from close range to give the Hatters

a three goal advantage.

Then, on the stroke of half-time Brkovic thought he'd claimed his

hat-trick only to be denied by an offside flag.

Eleven minutes into the second half Meecham scored the fourth when his deflected shot

wrong footed Robinson in the St. Albans goal and looped over his head.

The second half provided the opportunity for Director of Football

Mick Harford, who was over seeing the game along with youth coach Marvin Johnson, to run his

eye over a handful of trialists and substitute Daryl McMahon certainly stood out when he rifled

in a left footed shot which moved in front of the home goalkeeper and nestled in the bottom corner.

Pitt completed the scoring with his second in the 72nd minute when he fired past Robinson from the

edge of the box.

I put the crowd at 500+ and agree about the ground, but at least someone has been putting weed-killer on the terraces (cue EFM jokes?).

Hi mdet.

Yes. Someone else has just mentioned to me that 10 of the Luton players played for the 1st team last season. They played some very good footbal and, certainly, didn't take their foot off the gas.

I thought, in the second half, number 7 (right wing - I think), and number 10 (Striker) looked promising. If these guys are on trial I'd give them another go. Sorry don't know their names. Nice to see Clarence Park abit busier than usual.

In the second half, 7 was Paul Athalian and 10 was Adam Furness. Thought Matt Hann looked very good for us in the first half and also Matt Jones in the second half.

Instead of playing 3 Stevenage EFCO players in the first half (although to be fair, the 10 did look useful), we have enough of our own good youngsters. Why did we not give them a run out - Riley, Smith, Moore, Atkinson and others - an ideal opportunity to try them out. Also, where were Craig Rydeheard and Ben Cogger last night?

No not really. I already do my bit for Canvey and I was accused of working for the Hornchurch website!! Where they get these rumours I really don't know!!!

The thing that pissed me off was this was not just banter but turned downright nasty. At the end of the day, Claire, whether you're going out with Herts Blue or not, it's just banter and we're only having a laugh.

Some sadcase came up with a rumour I was working for Hornchurch just because I mentioned in my programme column that I had seen them on a couple of occasions when Canvey weren't playing or I couldn't make an away game which let's face it is quite often as I don't drive!

Through some stupid rumour a couple of Canvey fans became very hostile towards me despite my denials. Is it a crime to watch another team or have friends at another club?

Sorry, for totally going off track on this thread but I'm in a totally pissed off mood today!

Now let me get this right, YA.

Herts blue and Claire became hostile to you because you went to watch a couple of Hornchurch matches with your mates and claimed free admittance because you run their Official web-site and edit their programme. Is that the bones of the story?

Just as an aside, what has this got to do with our friendly aganst Luton Town [XI]?
