Danny Shipp Signs

Recommended Posts

Hornchurch are pleased to announce that Danny Shipp has signed for Hornchurch.

The 27 year old striker has been signed from neighbours Dagenham.

Danny started his career as a trainee at West Ham United, before signing for Irish side Coleraine in 1996 for a fee of £150,000.

He signed for Dagenham a year later and over the next seven years was Dagenham's record goalscorer with 105 goals making 305 appearances. He has now joined up with his former boss Garry Hill at Hornchurch.

Welcome to Hornchurch.

I've been telling you for ages to get this lad if he was ever available. Great signing who will definitely solve your goalscoring problem in midfield. Saw on teletext today he was discussing terms with Thurrock so you must have moved quick to get him!!

This one might be a mistake by Hill. Not too many people were sad to see him go at Dagenham, other than for sentimenatl reasons - Shippy was a great servant to the club.

Shippy joined us as an out and out centre forward, but towards the end of his third season with us Mr Hill, in his infinite tactical wisdom, decided to switch him to centre midfield, which really did not work as Danny cannot tackle and does not have the legs to get up and around the box to support the strikers from midfield. This tactical switch strangely coincided with the slump in form that allowed Boston to win the Conference. Not Shippy's fault, as he gave it everything that he had, but he is just not a midfielder. When he was occassionally switched up front, he looked a shadow of his former self.

Danny will give you 100% every time, but he is, in my opinion, no longer up to it at the top level of non-league football either up front or in midfield.

No bitter sentiments at all, Shippy gave his heart and soul for the club, but being a nice bloke and trying hard are not enough. The Conference has moved on so much since we got promoted and the standard is unrecognisable to when we joined. As much as we loved him, Shippy just did not meet the standard required either up front or in midfield for the Conference proper.

Trust me, I have seen him play midfield in the Conference and he looks unhappy in that position. I cannot see where he will fit in over your place with the players that you have got.

'Dagger Alan', all i can say is Time will tell !!

Us Urchins cant pass judgment after 90 minutes of a friendly (If we could then thats a shrewd buy). But one things for sure we trust Hillsy to make good decisons and i for one am confident that signing Danny will be one of them.
