Chris B - can you correct two obvious spelling errors - "Councillors" and "Release" in the titles.

Chris S - set your spellchecker to English, not Finnish!!!

OK, so I took the plunge and became the first to post a message...

Chris B - NOT nit-picking, merely the feedback from a friendly user.

Several queries:

(1) Guestbook

- Why is the 'submit' button titled 'Submit Query'? (Submit Message (eg) would be more accurate).

- When I clicked submit, I got an error page requesting I go back and enter a URL.

I can understand an email address being 'required' (it isn't), but a web address?

(I used the Official STFC URL, as I don't have my own!).

- On title bar, buttons at right show two entries for 'Post a message', where the lower one should be 'Back' (presumably)

(2) Press Release

If this is to be published to the media, there are a number of spellchecker-proof errors that ought to be corrected.

If someone is in a position to correct these (and no-one is offended by me pointing them out) I will send a PM with the changes required.

[Chris S - please do not take this personally. I am always amazed by the superhuman efforts you put into trying to secure the future of STFC. I am just concerned that this is an important release that will (hopefully) gain widespread visibility, and I would not want any reader to be distracted from the topic by the words used.]

Yours, genuinely trying to help STFC, and not p!ss anyone off

OK, dokey, will take a look at it, but have not got an awful lot of time at the moment. Just chucked the press release on without spell checking it, so don't shoot the messenger!

Is the guest book being "policed" so to speak to stop users from other forums e.g. This is Slough taking advantage of it as a way to spread rumors and general things that are not true about the club?

Chris

As I tried to stress in my post, I am trying to be helpful (some might say 'very trying' ), and the last thing I would want to do is shoot the messenger!

I'll have another look at lunchtime and send an email to Chris (B) and Gary with my thoughts...

Chris,

If you are short of time I am sure some of us would be very happy to do things like spell and grammar check for any official publications - as PJ says, we want to give the very best impression of a professional organisation - maybe even write some of them if you are really short of time. (Agree, PJ?)

We all realise that you on the Board and the Website are snowed under at the moment!

Hi Guys,

Did not mean to sound like I was snapping I do really appreciate everyone's comments - good and bad; I was just rushing with my post.

I'll spell check it now, but probably won't have time to look at the guestbook until Saturday now, when I'll make all the modifications, but then we really need to push the guestbook to all the other forums of other fans to get them to sign it - which I'll need help with if poss?

Ta

Chris

I'll echo Andrew's comments. I've chatted with Gary (off Forum) about this and have already offered to proof-read press releases, if this is requested. (Though I think you should take up Andrew's offer to write them, if short of time, as his English is a level above mine, judging by his posts! I'm good with the spelling, but not so hot on my grammar )

You think that's bad - what about poor, recent poster: Chris Hitchc ock (intentional space!)

I also suffered this on one website (can't remember which) - tried to login a user name including my surname, and it said this was not allowed ('illegal', or similar).

What is my surname?

'Jewell'!!
