Nice piece in the NLP yesterday

Recommended Posts

I can understand your moan re AFC, but it is all down to readership. There are a potential 4,000+ Wimbledon fans out there which is nearly as many as the whole of the Ryman divisions under the premier put together (until reorganisation). No doubt this coming season Carlisle and York will get the lions share of coverage, especially with the Cumbrians' crowd-pulling potential if they do well. When I worked for the NLP we hit 60,000 sales on some weekends, but not too sure what the sales figures are these days. Also it is/was very difficult to fill the paper during the close season even with the reduced pagination. Mind you talking from a far, I do think the whole design needs a major revamp as it is looking somewhat tired these days. Still fair play to them for hanging in there, despite all the problems of two years ago.

This could be a highly inflammatory comment on the basis that I seem to remember Leyton "Going to court" to retrieve their history back and they did ... which was why Leyton Pennant had to change their name to Waltham Forest and why the FA then had to sanction same . I think they may well be the "oldest" club as NLP suggest.. or do you really know different ?

Leyton going to court...How unlike them. That reminds me ,i must get the number of their Legal team. I hear the're miracle workers.

I always get a little confussed with the Leyton thing. My understanding was that once there was Leyton who became Leyton Wingate who then reverted to Leyton again.

They then became Leyton Pennant and moved grounds. Leyton Pennant then became Waltham Forest.

In the meantime a team formed in Intermediate football called Leyton County playing a Lea Bridge Road. This team got promotion to the ESL and dropped the county bit.

Can somebody clarfiy?

Leyton played one season as Leyton youth in the Spartan league after the old Leyton committee shipped out and took the league standing so Leyton pennant could play in the Rymans the only thing they left was the debts, Leyton youth played at Lea bridge road, the next season they went back to being Leyton fc playing in the Essex intermediate league, after the court case was won the honours board and one hundred year scroll were returned and the full FA membership re-instated then the mighty rise of LEYTON FC EST 1886 began, so we have always been Leyton as the re-instatement of the full membership shows, they are not given to new clubs so for all you green eyed ETFC ANORAKS you now know that we are the original Leyton fc that has left you in our jet stream.

So a court ruled that the current Leyton fc have an unbroken bloodline from the original club.

Just think, if ETFC had as much money to throw around as Leyton, they could probably sue Enfield fc and try to reclaim their 'honours board'. With the help of a sh*t hot (and expensive) legal team,i wouldn't bet against it

If I was to stick my neck out and say that, whoever beats Enfield Town this season in any Cup competition and is one point or more above them in the League will win it, who is going to disagree ? What a challenge this will be for everyone else. I predict another brilliant battle for honours in the ESL.

To be fair to Leyton and Iris's favourite nephew, it looks like they really are the original club. I don't think they know what a jetstream is though.

To be fair to ETFC, we KNOW we are not Enfield FC, that's the whole point of it, we don't want to be, we are happy with that and do not pretend otherwise.

Anon, I agree that the ESL should be an even tighter battle next season. Should be a good one!

It was nothing to do with throwing loads of money about it was about doing the right thing, about a handful of people who were left at Leyton who did not want to see the club die and cared enough to fight for its survival, your situation is different because you are not the original club. To all the un-blinkered ETFC supporters good luck for the coming season, ps Leyton county also played in the Spartan league and actually played at the county ground Leyton.
