Surely if the club is handed over to the council they will have to pay the wages?

I think its somewhat ironic that Stokes now wants to meet up with Deaner, according to the Observer, for talks - the council obviously dont want to take charge.

The council would probably have to run the club, and pay wages, but not at a loss. This would probably mean sacking the best paid players.

Cllr Stokes probably thinks he plays left wing, not goalie, but since he didn't know about the councils responsibilities, I don't think he ever turns up for the start of the match. He could well be a legend in his own mind.

The bit I don't get is that if Deaner is handing over the club back to the council why in the article in the express did it state that Hodgey was close to signing a one-year contract? If he's handed control over then why offer any contracts. I might be wrong, but I think Deaner might me financing the club for another season then walking away???

Or the flip side is, Hodgey gets offered very good terms by Mr D who is in full knowledge the council will be paying his wages?

We have two players on contract (Milf & Steer), plus maybe Hodgey. If the council do take on the club (they've still got about a week to sort it out) they would have to honour those contracts, plus find some funding for other players.
