Why The Council?

I don't want this taken the wrong way, I am just trying to understand the facts.

What I would like to know is why do you feel the council should find you a new ground?

I could understand you asking them if they have any available to sell but not sure why you feel they have an obligation to provide it.

Mal,

If you look at at Martyn Deaner's press release earlier in the forum you will find the answers:

"1) failure to complete that promise made when we were first asked to save the club in 1998, when the then leader of the council made an absolute promise that if we took on the burden he would personally see that an alternative site was provided in one year.

2) Having begged and cajoled for three years, the option of the site adjacent to Wexham Park on the Slough Borough side of the boundary could be made available, where we spent in excess of £80,000 to develop a project which halfway through was stopped having read in a local paper that the site had been assigned for a Sikh school

3) Following the debacle of the expenditure of the site development adjacent to Wexham Park, we were convinced by the Council that the regeneration of Britwell & Northborough could be an IDEAL solution to two problems as the sports complex would attract sports grants and the regeneration could be in parallel with the development of the area at Britwell.

A feasibility study was started two months ago. We are now advised, again by the local press, that the feasibility study is no longer required in its present form i.e. NO Sports Complex! NO Grants!. This is an 180 degree turn by the Council and therefore default under the Contract.

We have been privileged to be associated with the Slough Town Football Club, in particular it’s supporters. However, we have decided that having been grossly misled for six years, we cannot underwrite the club whereby the Town Council will act in such a manner.

As such, we have decided to cease all future plans and have informed the Council and the Slough Town Football Club Trust that we cannot work in such an environment having seen for six years of abuse of our good faith.

We will endeavour to handover the club to the Council which was provided for in the original documents when we first became involved. We have written to the council to outline that this must be done in the next ten days as the season is fast approaching."

As you can see the Club's owners have been working with the council to try and find a solution to our ground problem - the change of political control means that the new Council is walking away from the

deal that they (The council as a corporate entity) set up - so if I lead you to believe that I can solve your problem three times and then drop you in it each time, who would you hold responsible?

We wouldn't take your comments the wrong way Mal, unlike some of your fans did with your programme notes at our Bank Holiday match! <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Why do the council have to find us a home? Because the council are the one's who control the allocation of land. If we could just go and grab a piece of land for ourselves we would. How are we going to do it without the Council?

It's as simple as that. Well that and a legally binding contractual obligation of course if Martyn has the documents he says he has.

There are other historical ties as well: the sale of the Dolphin, the fact that the council owned the freehold of Wexham Park and put a clause in the lease to Myafair Communications that required some level of football to be played there........a lot of history Mal.

There is also the fact that Slough Borough Council found new sites for Slough Cricket Club, Slough Hockey Club, provide a home For Slough Jets, and provide some funding for Slough Jets, they also along with The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and Eton School provided funds for Thames Valley Athletics Centre.
