The first thread just about proves that some people know absolutely nothing about the situation. To say that no-one cares about the club is a disgrace as there are a large number of people that do. Toby? needs to look back to the last season we were in the Conference and look at the attendances. O.K., so no-one can say where we would be now if we hadn't been 'relegated' in 1998 but people need to understand that we could still be in the Conference getting big attendances if we had had the support back then (fair enough maybe not at that point from the council but from the Thorne's) and we could still get back there if the work is put in. I wonder if Toby? is a football fan and if so I bet he has great fun sitting at home on a Saturday watching the Premiership scores come in on Sky Sports. Maybe we should invite him to a match next season and see if he still thinks no-one cares then!!!!!

Don't think that the forum is particularly representitive of public opinion.I used to post regularly on the site, but gave up some months ago, saddened by the self pitying, onanistic, bullying, frequently racist, anti everything attitude taken by many of the posters. The main ones arguing against the club are Janik admirers, so there minds are closed.

I was going to post a reply, but there's precious little point. I admire Gary and BFR for fighting the cause on that forum, but I wouldn't know what to say that hasn't already been said.

Sorry to say this, but there are idiots like 'Toby' who clearly know little about football, the potential fanbase of the area, what it's actually like to care about a football club, and the fact that STFC DOES want to become more integrated into the community, but we need a home in Slough first - the reason 'hardly anyone supports Slough' (these weren't the actual words, but very close to) is half because we've been messed around by various parties in the past anyway. If we're not based in Slough and constantly have crises looming over us, fewer people will be interested. And then inevitably people bring in topics such as 'hooliganism' and 'institutional racism'.

These are the kinds of things I feel, and reading things on the community forum make me very frustrated to the point of tears sometimes. I want to, but I don't know if it's really worth appealing to their better senses.

Having looked at these Forums on Thisisslough, I came to the conclusion that it is the last repose of that bunch of anarchists who smashed up Farnham High Street after the Portugal defeat, wrecked the temporary toilets put up for the Burnham Carnival tomorrow and generally like to destroy up anything of value. Ignore them, Matt, and concentrate on convincing people who are prepared to listen to alternative arguments, even if they don't end up agreeing with us. Most of the time they seem to be picking arguments for the sake of.......picking arguments. Mindless Wreckers!

The one point that they seem to ignore which angers me more than any other is that if the Britwell plans were to go ahead, all of their issues would be addressed.

Britwell would get tens of millions of pounds of investment with not one penny coming from Slough tax payers. In addition, some of the commercial revenue would go towards supporting the football club thus no need for Slough tax payers to fund it.

And this park they care so, so much for. What are they doing with it now? Filling it with broken glass, dog crap, burnt out cars and grafitti. Why is this? Because the kids have no leisure facilities which they would get in abundance if they let the regeneration go ahead.

They should be coming to us and bloody begging us to put a football stadium there but if they want to live in an underfunded area because they cannot see past their ridiculously inaccurate pre-conceived views then bloody let them.

Andrew

I'd class myself as an anarchist, but don't believe in smashing random things up for kicks. What i do believe, is that if you want to change things you get together with like minded people to try and achieve that change - because I don't trust politicans to do this for us. This is one of the reasons Im totally behind the Supporters Trust.

I also know Cllr Stokes pretty well from my dabbling with politics in Slough and I spoke to him recently where he assured me he was a footie fan, has seen Slough play and supports the club - unfortunately i do feel that all the parties are using the club as a political football.

On another thread you talked about co-ordinating protests - and i reckon this is really important. For example has anyone contacted the non league paper to get them to cover the protests outside the Town Hall (I don't mind doing this).

From posters to stalls in the High Street to demos outside the Town Hall (and getting as many people along to these is really important) we've got to show the town and its politicians that we won't let the club die. What Brighton did with Fans United was amazing, what AFC Wimbledon has achieved is even more impressive, and although we've got a smaller fan base, Slough is a footie mad town and Rebels fans are some of the best and most committed in non league football. We've got to show people that letting the club die is not an option.

See you all outside the Town Hall

I'd rather judge people by their actions than their words. His actions don't support the club in any way.

Oh dearie dearie me....looks like the "good folk" who chose to share the literary outpourings of their brain cell with the rest of humanity on the thisisslough community forum have been to this very place and read this very thread and are now almost spontaneously combusting with righteous indignation about some of the comments contained herein.

Ian has come in for particular scrutiny and maximum venom.

Here is the thread in question it's onto it's 3rd page and still going - start from the bottom up for maximum indignation value this is slough "STFC......I've said it before". Be warned though - don't go there if you're easily offended by irrational, closed minded, egotistical, know all types - they abound on that particular forum.

as a contributor to the thisisslough forum i'd just like to say that we are not all against STFC, nor do we all believe what some of the posters you have mentioned choose to believe.

i think you should continue to put your side of the story forward - not to change the minds of those people who have already made up their minds - but to prevent only one side of the story being heard.

don't let those with closed minds stop you from having your say - I for one want to hear your views.
