Seeking Support

Recommended Posts

In terms of seeking support from other organisations is anybody on the Trust Committee coordinating who those organisations are?

For example the Slough Chamber of Commerce, Slough Estates, local Celebrities, The Secretaries of the local political parties, even Thames Valley Police would be good to have supportive if only to say that we are an orderly club where there is never any trouble, other sporting assocations in Slough, The British Legion, etc. There may be all sorts of bodies who would provide support because ultimately we all need some support from the council at some stage.

If someone is doing this I am happy to work with them to research addresses and produce letters for the official to sign - do we have any STST headed notepaper yet?

Thames Valley Police would be a good one as I seem to recall the football club nominating the Taplow Traffic Charity for a handout from the FA Charity Shield and the money being handed over, one their behalf, by Slough Town.

With regard to other businesses in the area, most of them are faceless multi nationals who couldn't give a damn about the football club's plight and Slough Estates only contribution is to make severely polluted land that they own (adjacent to Kennedy Park) and is uneconomically viable for them toclear up, available to the football club to build the new stadium upon.

No business is ever altruistic. They only ever do somehting either for profit or to dispose of something they have no further use for and which will cost them financially in the future.

But I hope that isn't the case but I can assure you all that I won't be holding my breath in anticipation of any favourable responses, the Police aside.

Andrew - I work for Slough Chamber of Commerce - which is part of Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce and internally I have been identifying where potentail oppertunities lie. As and when these openings arise I will let you know.

Problem is that unless companies see a profit they are not interested.

Adding to the list above has anybody thought about approaching Masterfoods formally Mars to back the club. They have been in Slough long enough to have seen Slough Town FC goes through the highs and lows. They also have the money to fund the club and any possible new stadium.

I have drafted a post aimed at being put on all the bigger clubs Fans Forums - Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, QPR, Fulham etc asking for any fans who live in Slough to give us their support. The text for an Arsenal version is below. If there are any people who have access to these club's forums could they put a version on the site - you never know it might generate some more support from people who live here but don't think they can help. Please let us know on here if you have posted it so we don't irritate them with multiple postings.

Thanks

Andrew

Text:

Do you live in Slough?

We could really do with a helping hand here and are appealing to all Arsenal Supporters who live in Slough. Slough Town Football Club are currently homeless and have been working with the council to redevelop a run-down part of Slough and to get a new Ground out of it. This is the third effort made by the club to sort this problem. In the recent elections, political control changed and the new council wants to ditch the plans, which has caused the Club's Owner to tell them he has had enough and is withdrawing from supporting the club, which could kill it. We know that STFC is a microbe compared to the mighty Arsenal, but many of the English players in our premiership clubs began in non league and many will learn their trade as Managers there after their playing careers are over. Every club however small that dies takes away something from football as a whole.

So please, if you live in Slough give us your support. How? Read the story in the Slough Observer and write and tell the Leader of the Council and your local councillor what you think of what has happened, and if you can, wear your Arsenal Colours and come and support us in our protests:

PLEASE BE THERE !!!!! Tuesday 20th JULY 2004

Also planned a Slough Town Day in the High Street on Saturday 31st July - all supporters are asked to attend from 11am to 1pm

Many thanks for reading this and all the best for next Season "

Good work. Remember the appeal Brighton fans put around for support for their new stadium? Maybe it would be worth returning the request to them seeing as we're in similar situations (if it's not been done already that is; I don't know if anything's been mentioned on it).
