AT LAST!! Some real news [No. 152]

Are you having a bad day, GHA?

Rob can speak for himself but he is a STH. No freeloaders here, thanks very much.

As far as the coming season is concerned, there are loads of people who would cut off their right arm to have the chance to pull on the yellow & blue shirt. We'll have a side by August 14th, GHA. Trust me on this one.

No no, I've owned enough Saints season tickets to work out what this season's specimen may look like.

My thinking was, Rob, that you may want to take the friendlies as being a little more important in order to gain full value on the purchase of the STH.

Unless ownership of an STH allows entry to reserve games as well?

Talking of Kettering, didn't they have some mouthy little g!t who came on a number of message boards at the start of last season talking about how they were going to "walk this poxy little Ryman league"?

There will be no more of that sort of thing next season.

Hi Claire.

Yes. There were several messages on here while you were soaking up the rays in Magaluf to the effect that Derek Brown has signed and committed his future to The Poppies. That news was confirmed in The Observer today. There was no talk of having a collection or a leaving card or anything of that nature, however.

Yep remember the guy well. He came on here spouting how Kettering would walk the Ryman League. They did f..k all and I can't see them doing too much in Conference North either.

I should imagine the defence has been somewhat weakened at Kettering so I don't see them doing much.

Nice to know that Castle is willing to wait until the season starts before getting a striker, maybe he just wants to see how the Gough/De Souza partnership gets on!

A couple of points, if a top striker is avalable after the start of the season it suggests to me that that striker has not been deemed good enough to join a club pre-season or he has been a disaster at his club and is given the elbow.

Either that or this top striker is travelling Thailand with Greg <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

.....and we had more than one of those, last season, GHA.

Oh, by the way. I can shed some light on the goalkeeper situation, in a manner of speaking, having just checked on the St Albans Observer internet news thingy.

Steve Castle has "moved to sign Mel Capleton" and has "invited Hitchin's James Robinson for a trial" [Worms F.C., presumably].

George Clark has "turned down a new deal" which, I imagine, explains why he "appears to have severed his ties with the club."

I quite like that part of the story. The manager offers the player a "new deal". £10,000 a week and a Ferrari. "I'll think about it" replies George. Then. Nothing. The manager sends an E-mail to all players at the end of June:

"Pre-season training starts Thursday week, lads. See you at t'Park at 6.30. Bring a friend, especially if you know any strikers. Make sure that your passport is up to date as we're going on tour to Germany. It's going to be very good this season."

George doesn't show. Clear demonstration that he appears to have severed his ties with the club.

Where do they get this stuff?

According to the Mighty Mighty Herts Ad, Castle has signed Capleton. Not just 'moved to sign him.'

Castle: 'Now Mel, d'ya fancy joining us in our assault on the Conference South next season?'

Capleton: 'Woah, step back Steve, you're getting a bit close to me there mate.'

Now that is interesting news, GHA.

There is a rational explaination for the blanket of secrecy that has shrouded the signing of the former Shrimper.

SC: "O.K. Mel. £10,000 per week and a Ferrari. That's a deal."

MC: "Cheers boss. Don't forget that I quite fancy playing up front with Neily if we're short. Oh, by the way. My passport has expired."

SC: Oh, shoot! Don't tell James that you've signed and committed your future to The Saints. I need to take a goalkeeper on the Cross The Rhine tour, and we can tell him it's a trial."
