10cc were a band of 4 very talented people who wrote Dreadlock Holiday, Wall St. Shuffle, I'm Not In Love...blah, blah, blah. The music was on the poppy side with intelligent and funny lyrics (the reason for I'm Not In Love was that when ever they started to write a love song, they kept on coming up with piss take lyrics...so the channged the format and sang about not being in love and lo!! A hit!!!). They could be a bit self indulgent, with too much humor (very student...) and maybe a little too clever.

I like 'em 'cos they wrote great tunes. The greatest hits is a good starting point but really does not do them justice...Their best songs were album tracks...Somewhere In Hollywood (Sheet Music), Second Sitting For The Last Supper (The Original Soundtrack) and Don't Hang Up (How Dare You)...

...But hey, just a personal view.

"I'm Mandy - Fly me" was another.

Question for you detectives.

Why was 10 CC's album "Deceptive Bends" so named ?? (probably their best LP)

Bet none of you know unless you are well aquainted with Surrey.

OK Gazza.

I was going to PM Claire with a history lesson, but here goes.

10CC were formed by Messrs. Kevin Godley & Lol Cream who founded their own recording studio in Dorking, known as 'Strawberry Studios', (now defunct). It was used a lot by the rich and famous for doing re-mixes etc and The Criketeers public house, (saloon bar), which stands almost next door was visited by the likes of Sir George Martin, (Beatles fame), and Brian Ferry, to name but two. (Both luvlly fella's, I hasten to add).

Between Leatherhead and Dorking on the A.24, are some wicked bends on the dual-carriageway which have trapped many a dozy driver. Until road improvements, there were signs at the start, 'DECEPTIVE BENDS'

After one of 10CC nearly 'lost' his motor on the journey south, and after having completed the album, the record was named !

This is from a web-site of our area:-

" [color:"blue"] Follow the A24 for about 3 miles, past Mickleham village, round the infamous Mickleham Bends [color:"red"] (immortalised by 10cc as 'deceptive bends') [color:"blue"] and still taking victims today), ........................." [color:"black"]

I'm sure this will appeal to the music people of St Albans, Zeals and co.

[color:"red"] HERE ENDETH THE HISTORY LESSON.

Not sure about Eric Stewart. I know one of the band wrote one of their cars off on the Buckland Bends, (different to the Mickleham bends), situated half way between Dorking & Reigate on the A.25.

He was lucky to walk away !

I did try to find a photo on the web of the actual old road sign for Deceptive Bends, but without success.
