I will be buying their new album this week.

Now, a lot of people lump McFly and Busted in together, but McFly far outweigh Busted for a number of reasons...

1. McFly sing in their normal accents, whereas Busted put on an incredibly annoying Yank accent.

2. McFly have Beatles/Byrds/Beach Boys-style harmonies/chord sequences, whilst Busted just sound like Blink 182.

3. McFly don't gurn every time they're in view of a camera.

4. When McFly mime on TV, they actually make real chord hand-shapes when holding a guitar, unlike Busted who just play 'air guitar' on real guitars.

Of course, once I've listened to the album, it may turn out they're sh*t, but the three songs of theirs I've heard so far are cool!!

Amazon.co.uk Review

McFly's Room On the 3rd Floor represents the triumphant welding of a major label's big-budget pop spend and bona-fide talent--a calculated attempt to win over kids who have grown cynical about the manufactured pop industry and crave something more real. Like those other "real" popstars Busted, they play their own instruments and write their own songs, but where McFly differ significantly is in their influences: they actually have some. The sound of lead single "Five Colours in Her Hair" and "That Girl" virtually (and refreshingly) pre-date the Beatles, harking back to Bill Haley and Chuck Berry, even if "Five Colours…" sounds like it's trying too hard in places--a forgivable and charming trait. It's a major gamble (how many 15 year olds are into the Beach Boys?) but it works. Both "Obviously" and the title track are simple, breezy acoustic strumathons ("Wake up early / Round seven thirty / Housekeeping knocking on my door") with the filtered influence of Noel Gallagher hanging around in the background. The only weakness is in the vocals, which too often sound whiney and diluted. With such blatant influences, there's an obvious lack of originality, but here the originality lies in actually having influences. Pop has come full circle. --Ben Johncock

Yeah, it's a well good album, to be fair!

Does anyone own a copy of the 1993 album Spilt Milk by Jellyfish? It's very similar to that in a number of ways, actually.

Got concerned at the start of track 12 - the ballad - as it sounded like it was going into typical boy-band terrority, yet somehow they managed to steer it into something that sounded almost like Aerosmith!

Most of the album is quite 50s-sounding. Chuck Berry and Beach Boys harmonies and guitar riffs.

A couple of the tracks are 1965-era Beatles sounding.

But all sugar-coated with modern-day production, which makes it sound very 'pop'.

It's hardly going to change anyone's world, but purely as a guitar-"pop" album, it's pretty fine!

I listened to the Delays album again last night, and it is just so beautiful. It's one of those '1 in the morning, can't get to sleep' kind of albums. Not that it'll send you to sleep or anything, just that it's very dreamy!

I thought the stellastarr* album was a bit average really, apart from the singles. Not bad though!
