...The amazing fiasco of the Isthmian League's administration goes on!

It now comes to light that the league’s AGM was invalid as it was inquorate.

Their company rules (articles) state that 60% of the Full Members (Premier and Div One teams) must be present. Since there were 72 Full Members (last season's clubs) entitled to vote at the AGM, 44 were required to be present at the meeting to form a quorum. Only 33 were there. As a result the business transacted at the meeting was invalid and, in the eyes of the law, the meeting is treated as never having taken place. The lack of quorum was due to the statement by the Alliance that clubs which were leaving their league as a consequence of the restructuring did not need to attend the AGMs of such leagues. As the Isthmian League lost over 40 clubs as a result of the restructuring, attendance at its AGM was more profoundly affected than attendance at the AGM of other leagues. The significant shortfall in numbers was not expected and did not become apparent until the registers were checked on the day after the meeting.

The league must now have a valid AGM before the start of the season which will be on 26th July at the Gatwick Hilton. This will be in two parts - the first part for old clubs and the second part for new clubs who don't officially become members until the old clubs vote them in.

Not everyone but some wanted to take us there blind without a seconds thought.

Bet you wish it would all go away Towners.

This whole scenario is a bit like 'Groundhog Day'.

Perhaps they'll make a follow up film one day about all this called 'Ryman (how to make a [****!!****]-up of everything you do these days) Day'.

Should we speculate too on whether any of the decisions made by the Committee over the last couple of months are valid. I think PBTFC helpfully identified all of the members at some point-but many of those would have had to have resigned as they were no longer in the Ryman league. Is there a quorum for Committee meetings?

I can't see how Nick Robinson can survive this one. He was under enough pressure as it was, but he must surely resign now.

As Gonzo pointed out in another post, Ryman will be fed up with seeing their name in the paper(s) for all the wrong reasons. Chances of them renewing their sponsorship - nil. So the future for the Isthmian league at level 4 / 5 looks distinctly dodgy.

And the Leyton FC Chairman has resigned from the League Board, so he can see the writing on the wall.

Blimey - all these politics are making my head spin.

From the Leyton website-this is fantastic!

Chairman of Leyton Football Club resigns from the Isthmian League Board Of Directors

Copy of a letter to Mr. Alan Turvey

1st. July 2004

Dear Alan

Following our recent telephone conversation please accept this letter as written confirmation of my decision to resign from the Isthmian League Board of Directors.

Although I was re-elected at the last AGM, I feel that after the fiasco of an AGM that was not an AGM, and following subsequent events at Staines Football Club on the 28th. June, I can no longer justly hold the position and continue to represent our members.

It is a position of trust where decisions that are decided upon should be made for the benefit of all the member clubs and at this present time, due to some amongst our ranks, this is certainly not the case.

Without trust and respect between us all I find my position on the board is no longer pleasurable and it is with great regret that I have reached my decision.

Obviously I, as chairman of Leyton Football Club will continue to support the Isthmian League, but must reserve the right to speak out when I feel it is necessary.

Yours sincerely

Costa Sophocleous

Chairman Leyton Football Club
