Email to HMV

The following email is winging its way to HMV...

Dear Manager,

I went into the St Albans branch of HMV today to browse through the shop as I do on a regular basis and, mightily impressed that I was with your 'Summer Sale', managed to amass some £119 worth of CDs and DVDs to take to the counter.

I'm sure you can imagine my disappointment when the astonishingly surly sales 'assistant' informed me I'd forgotten to sign my brand new Switch card, and that he'd be unable to sell me these items.

Fortunately, thanks to my foresight and quick thinking, I was able to grab a pen from your sales counter and sign the back of the card, enabling me to buy the aforementioned items three doors down at Woolworths, with no trouble whatsoever, albeit costing me a couple of quid extra.

Hurrah for Woolworths!

Yours sincerely,

Colin Zeal

P.S. I did, of course, return the pen.

Splendid e-mail, it's e-mails like that which make me realise that electronic mail (to give it's full title) is worthy when I plough through the ton of [****!!****] I get spammed every day.

If you were to send that by 1st class letter, I'd doubt you'd bothered. Like the time I e-mailed Dr Fox to ask him if he was a fully qualifed doctor as I was suffering from a pain in the ar*e due to all the [****!!****] music he played. If I had to find a pen, paper and 26p for a stamp I wouldn't have bothered and I doubt whether his reply of "get a life, you loser" would of arrived back as well.

I do like the style of the email, but I suspect they'll do absolutely nothing about it - they'll claim that if someone had found your switch card and had used it to purchase the items, you'd be less than happy- which is true I suppose.

Either that, or they'll sack the monkey behind the till, who could have asked to see another card, and offer you a £500 spending spree

You're right about the convenience of email, I'm currently trying to complain to the Halifax about a string of incompetencies which culminated in me today finally getting a new card (after 6 weeks of trying) only to find that it expired yesterday!! Conveniently for them there is no email address on their complaints page, and I'm not sure I can be bothered to phone or write to them
