the club are pleased to announce the signings today of Paul McCarthy and Jamie Stewart.

Paul has been signed from Oxford United after a successful two years as first team captain there and plays as an uncompromising central defender...at ease at both right and left of the central defensive position.. Paul is 30 years of age.

Jamie Stewart joins us from Southend United..... is 24 years of age and plays at left back or left wing back. A very pacy Northern Ireland under 21 International.

Great stuff boys and welcome thru' the looking glass.....

more to follow on thursday Urchins....

Is that the Jamie Stuart who used to play for Charlton and got donr for drugs? I wasn't taking the piss with that last comment just asking if it was the same one because he's a decent player.

Excellent...nice to see us beefing up the team. Are their signings linked to the Irish tour???(they are both Irish!) P.S. You'll have to get Guinness in the bar now Unc!!!

Mccarthy...."A rare signing of quality by Alan Smith, arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion for a tribunal set fee of £100,000. The former Republic of Ireland Under 21 International joined Brighton as trainee in 1989 and went on to make close to 200 appearances for the South Coast side". Paul seems to have been replaced at Oxford as part of the 'Rix Revolution'.

Jamie Stuart (get it right Official!) made a number of appearances for Southend (mainly from the bench it seems?) last season after signing from Bury.

Southend fan here.

I take it you're talking about who I think you are?

Jamie Stuart is actually 27 and was formally an England U-21 International until he was banned from football for 12 months for being caught using drugs. He most definitely isn't pacy either!

He'll be a very solid player at Ryman level though. He had a few decent games for us but when he was bad, he was atrocious. Can occasionally fill in at centre back, and he actually looked better there for us than he did at left back, which was strange. How are you going to accomodate both him and Sergio though?

He seemed like a top bloke though, and I wish him all the luck in the world for you.

Good luck for the coming season.

hhhmmm..usual new registration with dire warnings about what we're doing and who we're signing ....

but how they wish us all lots of luck....

anyone know how to find out the players past record with the FA.......lets have a look but in any event....

we all make mistakes and if the player has I still trust Hillsy's judgement....

after all....Lockie liked a 'fag' or two but it hasn't stopped him being a top player for us....

lets wait and see before we pass judgement.....

and......

come on Tim....fly those flags.....

If you ask nicely Urchinboys I'll let you share the secret stash of "the black stuff" that the Urchinettes save for me. And I am talking about the Guinness!

I wasn't knocking you, warning you about a terrible signing, or anything like that. I just gave you an honest view on Jamie.

Living in Rainham, I really hope you do have a great season, and I'm sure you will. With all the former Shrimpers in the squad, I'll most definitely be popping down the road to catch the odd home game of yours, and I know quite a few others will be doing the same. Did Danny Gay sign up in the end by the way?

As I said before, I'm sure Stuart will be a solid signing for you, as he most definitely has the determination and pure blood and guts attitude to do well in non-league.

You'll have to let us know what you think of Damon and Jamie and how they're doing when they've played a few times for you.

Good luck once again.

thanks andy...I'm sure you mean well and you'll be welcome at the stadium whenever you want to come down.....

as for stability in the squad U.....aint got a clue what that means....

obviously the manager feels that the players we had were not suitable for his ambitions....aint saying they were not good enough...just saying that the manager feels need for change....

you want stability.....

in football.....??

try getting excited and stop trying to be an [****!!****]....

no one's taking you on.....

Being an [****!!****] me No far from it just worried about team spirit !

I am bloody excited counting the days till the fiendlies but the truth is we don't know enough about a player till there playing for us, i thought after speaking to Purthrock fan that Jon Keeling was going to be rubbish, yet he was marvalous we can't take anyones word about these players except the managers.

Wonderful signings on paper and all it seems for FREE !

yup....aint paid a bean for any of 'em...

on paper the signings look top quality....I suspect that we will have a few indifferent games before they all settle although a full time months pre season really ought to sort that out...

a second keeper signed today I believe details of which will be on here later and a striker and central midfielder all set up for signing next week...

I dont know their names yet...

little old Hx favourites to win the title....!!

ha ha ha...great stuff...

You cant expect anything different really, it takes time to gell. I hope they don't travel to the beauty parlour too much next year seemed a bit of a bad luck omen last year.

New Striker ? Does that mean you don't need my Macedonian import this year he needs a new work permit but i have a mate who can do that for a score.

I am counting down the days to the start even got it in my phone...how sad am i ?! That's a rhetorical question UB
