objective and true BC

we were poor

but goals win games and we scored a perfectly good winning goal....

having said that players did go missing tonight....

how much longer before ericson susses out that we need a real captain and not a blown up cardboard cutout gillette advert....

come to that.....how much longer before everyone susses ericson out......

deeper and deeper we went.....!!!!

I told Sven: "England will never win a trophy without West Ham players in the squad"......but he wouldn't listen!

Seriously, those overpaid, underworked, tired players made me realise why I like non-league football so much.

One bonus....at least our supporters have done us credit...with the exception of those chavs in the Algarve after the France game.

Numb.

Once again we see a host nation cheat their way past the early rounds of a competition. The Koreans and to Japs did exactly the same 2 years ago with a host of dodgy refereeing decisions.

Anyone visited the referees own website yet?

Bigchin,it was irrelevant whether they were the better side, we had a goal disallowed which should have stood, it's cup footy and all that mattered was getting thru.

England will never win anything, they feck up just like west ham everytime there's an opportunity to do something, just the way it is, and the Boys of 66 and West Ham will live on.

If we had played on the offensive throughout the match as we did agaist Croatia I have no doubts that England would have won comfortably. Instead we campt in our own half exactly as we did agaist France and ended up paying the price. I still beleive that England are a better side than them and if the right tactics had of been employed we would still be celebrating now.

It seems that Erricson favours that style of football but its obviously not working.

It says a lot when your best players on the pitch were defenders. Campbell, Cole, G Neville were awsome last night. As for the ref nothing suprises me. Same old story every fcking time.

It's fcking hard supporting West Ham and your country. I should be use to it by now, but it still hurts just as much every time this sort of sh*t happens.

It was certainly disappointing. We were poor, but arguments about whether we deserved it or whether we would have got any further are irrelevant. The point is we scored a perfectly good goal at the last which was disallowed and which probably would have won the game.

The events after the goal was disallowed were a disgrace - i.e. the fact the referee allowed the Portuguese to take the free kick quickly from the wrong place whilst we were still celebrating. If they had scored from that there would have been a riot. I'm all for letting the game flow but that was a situation where common sense should prevail.

We gave them too much space in midfield and should have closed them down better as they did to us, but I guess it's a little difficult to know what to do if every time you put a challenge in on your opponent he goes to ground, often dramatically, and wins a free kick. I guess players were afraid of getting yellow carded. Saying that, we needed a captain's performance to help lift the side and we didn't get it in my opinion, and Beckham's pointing to the penalty spot after he'd missed was a little embarrasing. To his credit, though, he made sure he was standing next to Vassell for the last penalty and was quick to console him.

So once again we are knocked out of the knockout stages of a major competition as in 1986 (Maradonna's hand of God), 1990 & 1996 (Penalty shoot-outs against the Germans) 1998 (a Sol Campbell disallowed goal against Argentina), narrowly and mainly controversially. My non-English friends are quick to point out THAT goal in 1966 (however, I have to remind them of the highly questionable free-kick awarded to the Germans in the last minutes of normal time which led to their 2nd goal to take us into extra time, and the fact that we won by 2 goals not 1), but how many times over do we have to pay for that ?

And did anyone notice Eusebio running down the touchline during the penalty shoot-out shouting encouragment ? What was that all about ? And a Swiss referee ? Weren't Switzerland in our group ?? Looking on the bright side, that might mean that if Portugal get through to the final perhaps we'll get Mike Reilly in the middle. That'll teach 'em :-)

Personally I don't think we should be too disappointed about our performances as a whole. We've seen some great games, we've seen what Wayne Rooney can really do at International level, and scored 10 goals - most of which were superb.

Agreed good comment

I will point out that the equalising goal by the Krauts in 66 was offside

Have a look at the white shirt more or less on the goalline and the rules at that time were OFFSIDE!

And I haven't even started to talk about Clive Thomas in 81 yet!

What about that Brazilian goal he disallowed when he blew for full time as the ball was in the air at a corner! They should ref the game and be heard but not seen, it's all about Man Management not hiding behind bits of yellow and red, a bit of cajoling as the game is progressing has a far better effect than making mountains out of molehills.

They always come in threes: Mr Crick, Carrick's penalty and then the Swiss Roll

50 days to go, can't wait !

*yawn's at 1966 comment, blah blah we won the WC etc etc*

Not quite the same as West Ham, to compare we'd have to slump to about 30 in the world (on our way to position 70) and all our best players will find citzenship of the likes of Brazil, France or Holland. And the FA would eventually go bust!
But of course we'd still sell out crowds and be the biggest team in Europe even though Turkey and San Marino are doing better than us..... oh yeah and we won the world cup in 66
