Some real news!! AT LAST!! [No 148]

While queuing to collect my copy of Horse & Hound, I glanced at the back page of the St Albans Observer, and there was a lot of re-assurances under the headline "Castle signs".

Yes, it was widely reported last week that Steve Castle was about to sign, and this week it was confirmed that Steve has signed and committed his future to the Saints. A new two year contract was signed this week. A lengthy quote from Steve, but nothing about 'stabalisation', I'm pleased to say. I lost the thread of the article at this point but it said something about re-assuring the players that he is hoping to sign, and, presumably, the fans. I felt suitably re-assured.

As widely rumoured last week, the article confirmed that Steve Watts has joined Fisher Athletic. Steve Castle re-assured the readers that "It was not a money thing". Apparently, Steve Watts lives in Bromley and can't train in St Albans midweek, which was unacceptable. I felt suitably re-assured.

Contrary to wide rumours that we were about to sign Craig Rydeheard from Bedford, the article confirmed that we have signed a hard tackling left sided midfield player called Craig Rynard although no further details were given.

Steve Castle is 'talking to' Lee Clarke who has 'left the pro game', [allegedly], and Steve is 'hopeful', although it is 'difficult'. It wasn't entirely clear which aspect of talking to Lee Clarke is difficult but I didn't write the article, I'm just passing it on for your benefit.

Err...That's it. All in all, very re-assuring.

[i have to say that, at times like this, I take my hat off to these sports journalists and media people like Webbo, Rob the Saint and herts blue. I couldn't possibly write like that.]

How come the signing of Rinedengaardheadeneenelly hasn't been put on the website?

How come it seems that the club is putting no news forward apart from the occasional snippet to the newspapers?

Why is there no news? It is the close season, after all. Player comings and goings, the new strip, board appraisal for the new season, budget constraints, 1500 plus crowds for each of the friendlies...

Look chaps. Read the Media Announcement on the web-site. [ignore the grammatical errors. Been there. Done that.]

Clearly, Steve Castle has been 'talking to' lots of the leading players in football including last season's squad. "Come and play for the Mighty Saints in the Conference South next season", says Steve. To a man, they have all replied "Great offer, Steve. It would be a priviledge to pull on the yellow and blue but what about you? If you don't have a contract, you could become 'surplus to requirements' and someone else could be appointed who I don't rate as highly as I do you. You know what Chairmen can be like."

"Ours is a diamond, actually, good as gold, but I take your point," replies SC, "Leave it with me. I'll sort out a contract and then we can talk again".

So. The manager signs a two year contract. Stand by for these players to put pen to paper, sign and commit their future to the Saints.

I wonder what the squad will be for the Worms tour?

Great news, Webbo. That's really helpful. You people who have friends in high places and are in the know. I'm really re-assured now.

When does this new scout start? He's needs to get a bl00dy move on. We've only got 5 players and the matches start in about 3 weeks.

Oh. Wait. Coaching? Scouting? It's not Miguel De Souza, the player/coach is it? Or Richard Thomas the player/assistant manager? If so, that's old news, mate.

O.K. Webbo. You are, clearly, in the mood to tease us and as it's your birthday, I'll oblige.

a]. Has this chap/gel helped out before?

b]. If yes to a]., did he/she recommend Watts and Parker?

c]. If yes to a], but no to b]., did he/she recommend any of the '40 minute wonders'?
