Waterfall

Chimes sing Sunday morn

Today's the day she swore

To steal what she never could own

And race from this hole she calls home

Now you're at the wheel

Tell me how, how does it feel

So good to have equalised

To lift up the lids of your eyes

As the miles, they disappear

See land begin to clear

Free from the filth and scum

This American satellite's won

She'll carry on through it all

She's a waterfall

She'll carry on through it all

She's a waterfall

See the steeple pine

The hills as old as time

Soon to be put to the test

To be whipped by the winds of the West

Stands on shifting sands

The scales are in her hands

The wind it just whips her and wails

And fills up her brigantine sails

She'll carry on through it all

She's a waterfall

She'll carry on through it all

She's a waterfall

Made Of Stone

Your knuckles whiten on the wheel

The last thing that your hands will feel

Your final flight can't be delayed

No land just sky it's so serene

Your pink fat lips let go a scream

You fry and melt, I love the scene

Sometimes I fantasise

When the streets are cold and lonely

And the cars they burn below me

Don't these times fill your eyes

When the streets are cold and lonely

And the cars they burn below me

Are you all alone

Is anybody home?

I'm standing warm against the cold

Now that the flames have taken hold

At least you left your life in style

And for as far as I can see

Tin twisted grills grin back at me

Bad money dies, I love the scene

Sometimes I fantasize

When the streets are cold and lonely

And the cars they burn below me

Don't these times fill your eyes

When the streets are cold and lonely

And the cars they burn below me

Are you all alone

Are you made of stone?

Bye Bye Badman

Soak me to my skin

Will you drown me in your sea

Submission ends and I begin

Choke me, smoke the air

In this citrus-sucking sunshine I don't care

You're not all there

Every backbone and heart you break

We'll still come back for more

Submission ends it all

Here he comes

Got no questions, got no love

I'm throwing stones at you, man

I want you black and blue and

I'm gonna make you bleed

Gonna bring you down to your knees

Bye bye badman

Bye bye

Choke me smoke the air

In this citrus-sucking sunshine I don't care

You're not all there

You've been bought and paid

You're a whöre and a slave

Your dark star holy shrine

Come taste the end... you're mine

Here he comes

Got no questions, got no love

I'm throwing stones at you man

I want you black and blue and

I'm gonna make you bleed

Gonna bring you down to your knees

Bye bye badman

Bye bye

I've got bad intentions

I intend to knock you down

These stones I throw

Oh these French kisses

Are the only way I've found

Claire, this LINK is from the Stone Roses unofficial, but superb, website.

It is a page where Stone Roses fans have voted on their favourite albums of all time.

Apart from the ludicrous entry at number two (The Second Coming is NOT a great album, despite Fleetboy's protests to the contrary), this is pretty much the list you should be referring to when you want your "next lesson in proper music", as you promised earlier in the week.

Note The La's at number 32 too, Claire!!

Nice list, but you've got to wonder how many people actually voted when there are so many albums in equal positions near the bottom.

I love the Stone roses, but my memory of them is slightly clouded by having witnessed them only play live once, at what was roundly agreed to be their worst ever (and last) performance at Reading '96

Libro - thought that myself! And surely no more than one person could have voted for Bed by 5:30!!

I saw the Roses live in December 1995, by which point Reni, but not John Squire, had left, and it was shocking. I have blanked it from my memory though.

But what happened with them in the months going in to Reading was just appalling. Replacing Squire with some Yank? It was a fking disgrace.

That first album, and it's accompanying b-sides were just awesome. The Second Coming holds no interest for me at all, and in my mind it doesn't exist. The Stones Roses finished in 1990 for me. Why bother coming back 5 years later and ruin the legend??

Don't remember ever saying it was "great" but it's certainly not as poor as people make out...i suppose just in comparision to their debut...

Smash Hits - June 1990
Still have this issue at home!

Cool issue too - note the Inspirals/Charlatans posters at the bottom!!

This was back in the days when Smash Hits was a fking superb magazine, without having to fill its pages with boy-band crap.

I used to have loads of Smash Hits indie posters on my wall!
Wonder what pearls of wisdom MC Tunes had to pass onto the under 8's!

I loved the way Smash Hits gave people silly nicknames, Craig from Bros was called Ken and they called Fruitbat Wombat ....
