What encourages me...

...is that we're the best team so far in this tournament (no arguments, AFF - if Alan Hansen says so, then it's good enough for me!) and this is without either Owen or Beckham having performed.

Imagine how awesome we're gonna be when those two get their acts together!

Bring on Portugal. They have nothing to frighten us!!

The Czechs were pretty impressive against Holland (who weren't bad themselves) apart from a shaky opening, and Nedved looks the player of the tournament to me so far. But yes, set pieces aside, we did a decent job last night while still looking as though there may be another gear if needed.

Hi Zealadine Zealadan.

Yes, Alan Hansen is a top boy.

What amused me was the interesting insight into the way the mind of a football manager works. I was watching last night and, midway through the first half, I said to Mrs AFF "No problemo, we are going to win this 3-1. We have all the position and possession, palying good football etc. and if it's maintained, the goals will come", or words to that effect.

5 minutes before the opening goal, Joe Royle said to Motty [he must be getting close to retirement as well, but that's another story], "Sven has to make changes at half time. It's just not happening. He has to find some zing. Doom, gloom and despondancy" or some such gobbledygook. The frightening thing is that Joe Royle has more chance of becoming England manager than me or Alan Hansen, and if he was, he would have made changes. Strewth!

Dead easy, being a football manager.

One of the headlines on Sky News is "Sven pops the big question to Nancy".

I assume the answer was either "push Cole up a bit and drop Bridge into the vacated left back position" or, as an outside bet, "he had to get one sooner or later, now if only we could get him to tackle properly".
