New team in the Ryman 2 wants friendlies..........

Recommended Posts

Taken from the nonleaguedaily.com

Allan Fenn, assistant-manager of newly-promoted Isthmian League Division Two side Ilford, has made a direct appeal to www.nonleaguedaily.com for help in finding pre-season opposition for his club after their original plans which catered for another campaign in the Eastway Essex Senior League had to be drastically re-assessed due to winning a late member club vote for elevation within the Pyramid system.

Ilford finished the previous campaign in the runners-up position in the Essex Senior League but the sharp money was that fourth-placed Enfield Town would indeed get the necessary backing for promotion to the Isthmian League,. However, recent developments have proved this to be otherwise and an action plan has been put in place to make sure that facilities at Ilford’s Cricklefield Stadium ground will be carried out and completed before a final inspection by the league management committee on July 29th, prior to the start of the new season.

Training commences for Ilford on July 1st, and two pre-season friendlies arranged at away venues will be played as originally planned against Croydon Athletic on July 31st and Whitstable Town on August 7th.

Away fixtures are urgently requested on either of the following dates in July 13th 17th 20th 24th or 27th, plus the 3rd and 10th of August. Cancellation of home fixtures already scheduled has been deemed necessary to carry out the ground improvements as previously mentioned.

Ilford would be delighted to here from clubs in the Ridgeons, Minerva Spartan South Midlands, Kent, Sussex County League or others of a similar standard.

Please contact in the first instance Allan Fenn on 07790 906577 or direct to Ilford Football club at Cricklefield Stadium, High Road, Ilford, Essex, IG1 1UB.

Can't understand why Ilford do not want friendlies with teams from the ESL, especially as the ESL is of a similar standard?

Yet another ground inspection? After the AGM?

Here's looking forward to a healthy thread.

My son actually plays for Ilford and he has said that because of the recent decision by the FA, Ilford had to cancel their home friendly games because some work had to be done by the end of July.

No this isn't the case at all....

Because of someones [****!!****] up Ilford had their invitation withdrawn...didn't complain or appeal....then the Ryman league committee finds out that Ilford actually finished above Enfield Town and reversed their previous decision. Ilford though they would be playing in the ESL this season hence no rush to get the work sorted but now they have to make a minor adjustment to their ground then they will be ok.

Look at the end of the day it is not Ilfords fault this mess happened. Give them a break.

I'm not saying it is Ilford's fault, I have nothing against them whatever and wish them well next season - if for no other reason than a successful season in R2 would reflect well on the ESL.

I'm just noting that the rule about being ready on the given day is usually ruthlessly and rigidly applied and no excuses accepted.

There was no chance of an extension of time when we won the ESL but a series of delays and [****!!****] ups by the FA ground committee thingy meant we couldn't start in time, for example.

When you won the ESL, you were looking for promotion and not a sideways move. My understanding is that the rules are still rigidly applied (well, nearly always. Dunstable Town were an exception but that's another, very long story). Anyway, because the rules are still rigidly applied that is why Ilford are not playing in Division 1 next season despite finishing in a promotion position.

The Ryman were facing an exodus of Division 2 clubs if they didn't guarantee their sides a 16 team division hence the fact that they seem prepared to give Ilford the time they need to get the ground up to scratch. Bearing in mind that Ilford only got the nod very late on, it doesn't seem that unfair to give them some time in the circumstances.

Having said all that, now for my usual proviso. The above is, of course, dependant upon the vote at the Ryman AGM tomorrow.

You find me Stowford Press at £1.70 or Youngs at £1.60 or a LARGE G&T at £1.50 and wrap it up with one of the best Club cricket sides with a superb view over rolling hills- and I MIGHT consider it.
