Time to get the drums out again ?

In todays Slough Express, on Page 5, the new Leader of the Council, Richard Stokes, is quoted as saying that he will "axe the unwanted football Stadium in Britwell"

Back to square one? What can we do to put pressure on him, as this could well mean the end of the club.

As was discussed at last night's Trust AGM, the council would have to refund the £250,000 to Martyn Deaner should they stop the feasiblity (sp?) study from continuing now it has started (set to finish in October 04). Can't say that would go down too well.

I also think that the study could well reveal a few truths to the residents that they have been misinformed on in the past month or two which may have swayed their decision. Given the councillors for Britwell are all independant, they should be going with the majority of choice from their ward. I think the study, should it finish, could swing things in facour of the club.

There is a council meeting on the 5th July, which will be Stokes first as head, at which a strong Slough fan presence, in full colours, could well be required.

The observer has Stokes saying that they will stop the football stadium whatever the cost, but that he fully supports Britwell regeneration. As far a I was aware the two go hand in hand. Those drums are definitely coming out. It looks like we have got a fierce battle on our hands.

Are we definately turning out to protest on the 5th? If so I will need to book the day off work and we will need to spread the word to those not at the AGM and not looking on the forum.

Would also be nice to have us back in the local press pushing our case as the last couple of weeks has had the councilors saying there won't be a new stadium and we should go back to Wexham Park - we need to put our point over that realistically that is not a possibility.

It could be a possiblity if slough council (new) use tax payers money to purcahse some land back (ie the ground area) and give martin deaner the land adjacent to build the infastructure on land within the slough boundary ! And stop the Not need seik school !!! there.............

but allow the football club the land that had been set aside 5 years ago , before the council gave it to the school project....

The inportant thing is to ensure something is done ...and done soon...are we will have no football club...

cheers chris s <img src="/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Is a protest outside the town hall the best option to make ourselves heard. It could give all the anti football councillors amunition to say we're a bunch of hooligans disrupting there business and thats why we shouldn't have a new ground.

Would it be useful to start some kind of co-ordinated e-mail campaign. Not entirely sure how it would work but if we all direct e-mails to the most influental people it could get us heard. If all the regular users on this forum joined in it could work, it might even be useful to get support from other clubs particularly homeles ones like Chelmsford, Margate and Wokingham.

We could use Wokingham as an example of how danaging being homeless can be. I beleive they've now dropped out of senior football and are playing at park level.

If the councillors can't differentiate between organised protest and football hooliganism then there really is no hope, either for the football club or for the future of Slough. Given how Stokes has made it clear that he is keen to wipe the football stadium off the agenda it is up to us to make sure that we do not get forgotten and the best way to do that is to make our presence felt at the first meeting of the new council.

As for Wokingham Town, yes the homelessness has been damaging to them, and as far as I am aware they have merged with Embrook.
