At ten past four tonight on BBC Radio 5 Live commentator Mark Pougatch asked Graham Taylor how Sven would feel if he was just "two matches" from getting the sack and " does it compare with say, Great Wakering Rovers in the Essex Senior League" OK historically inaccurate but any publicity is good as they say and getting a mention like that on World Radio sent me into seventh heaven !

 

Always fond memories of Mark and Jonathan Overand (Chief Tennis expert) at BBC Essex in the early 90's, their co-operation was top class and many a League Cup draw was held at their Chelmsford headquarters on Saturdays's at 5.10pm.

You suggested that Switzerland were not good enough for the ESL. May I remind you that they got a creditable draw with Croatia who drew with France (Something that England failed to do) and were top of their group in qualifying. Most of their team play in foreign premier leagues.

 

They were not rabbits and may yet surprise France. The difference in my view between the teams was Rooney and, later Vassell. The Swiss forward line lacked penetraton in the centre though were strong on the flanks.

 

I thought that England defended on the edge of the box or even deeper on occasions and so did Switzerland. (Defend on the edge of the England box) The Swiss could not keep up that kind of pressure for 90 minutes and at the end England, if the game had lasted another ten minutes, would have scored at will.

Sorry PBT, this refers to another conversation when Taylor was asked what justification there was in Enfield FC sharing at a new ground next season and he said it was all down to "Ware's ethics ! "

I felt I had to raise the level of comment. It was getting rather tedious.

 

There is a comment on another thread about Robson's comments. He might never shut up but he does seem to miss things that I see very early on.

 

Against France after about 5 minutes I thought that Gary Neville was wasted on the right flank as the midfield seemed to ignore the wide open spaces on that side. It took Robson 20 minutes to make that comment.
