An Interesting One..

I was on a long drive home and was listening to a debate, it was 'Would the UK be better off without Scotland?'

I concluded that yes it would, the Scots can still hate us and we won't have to pay for them any more.

We subsidise the Scottish Economy and we ever get back is the fact they hate the English. In fact Euro 96 they hung out a German shirt, similarly did the same when the Argies put us out. I am fed up of hearing the SNP claptrap, that Scotland would happily survive independently.

My simple thought was fk them!

What are your thoughts???

Tend to agree. The thing that pisses me off is if the Scots and Welsh had got to Euro 2004 quite a few English people would have got behind them and cheered them on, I know I would have but they always want to see us lose.

I think maybe we should start supporting the opposition when Scotland play a game. I mean Costa Rica, Morocco, Iran and the Faeroes are great footballing nations, aren't they?

You can include the Republic of Ireland in that one too. Went to school 6 miles south of the Scottish border and the English - Scottish mix was fairly even. Let's just say it got competitive whenever the two played at anything. I'll still support anyone against Scotland, though their inability to beat anyone with a population of over 50 rather takes the fun out of it all.

For those who remember Argentina 78 - the Scots were genuinely more happy about having qualified for something that England didn't than about the fact that they got to play in the premier world football tournament. Iran? Peru? Priceless.

You're not wrong with the Irish there HB, I know this is coming over as arrogant but I think on a lot of fronts it's just inferiority complex.

In scotland, they have everything 'Made in Scotland' for Scottish people. I just think it's tantamount to that same inferiority complex.

Take 'Brave Heart' for example, yeah they can find enough Englishmen to play the bad guys, but when it comes to a leading Scottish actor, who do they plump for?? An Australian!!

My point is that England appear to be hated by a lot of different nations, the French, the Scots, the Irish. A lot of this comes from history and people are bought up to hate what we WERE, not we are now. But if Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland would be happier without us, I wouldn't lose a second's sleep.

Oh no! I'm moving to Scotland in September- I'm gonna get beaten up I'm scared!

My Mums Irish (republic) and she cheers England on when they play. Although she is now claiming that Wayne Rooney is half irish, as she does with everyone that does well!

Funny that, considering Britain owned half the world and then sold the countries back. That's why we're so rich (well, we were until the government got silly with their (sorry our) money.

It's also like a house. The house you buy or live in, is never truly your house, you're just looking after it for next person!!!!!!

Not all Scots are hoping England lose, but then I have lived here 27 years so I suppose I'm a little 'Anglicised'. As for a division of the Union, yes why not? Of course Scotland and Wales can survive on their own, just look at all those little ex-USSR nations who are doing

just fine without Russian rule.

There is a little difference there as those states doing well have oil and we'll only give Scotland back when we've screwed that resource!!

I think I only get this way when England are playing, maybe I'll be a bit more magnanimous in a couple of weeks. Because, in my experience of travelling to Scotland I've found them to be a friendly and generous bunch in general, but there are just some things that cut a bit deep and it's usually when England lose!! Put it this way, they don't hate us all individually, it's what we stand for..

Chubbster you've no need to worry going up there, until the football games come along when, for examples sake, Scotland become Croatia's biggest fan come Monday. I think as an England fan I'm sick of hoping Wales, Scotland and Ireland do well, when they simply hate us.
