Music appreciation

[Northern Monkey]

There is oft expressed on this forum a great and varied appreciation of various musical genres, also comparing the merits of one versus another. There is often expressed radical and militant views tending to the blinkered. All music is of value if it brings pleasure to someone. There are bands/artists I like and others I don't. I have choice, I do not have to listen to them do I, nor does anyone if they so wish. taking a stance of "Mine is better than yours" is no less than jingoism. and that cannot be right, can it. As I said the greates gift is the gift of choice. The only downer is Fashion in Music you have to listen to a band because the are cool. Very few bands command instant respect of millions due to sheer quality of their work , Beatles are an exception as are a few others. My point........ listen to music because you like it, not because it is cool, don't be afraid to like what is not expected of you. The only limit is your own imagination.
