Claire, Radiators are not really wear and tear parts, if you're driving along they can easily get 'holed' if a stone flies up from the road. The likely problem is a leak in the radiator.

 

It may be the case that some Radweld is needed, if the hole is bigger you'll need a new radiator, would be around about 150 quid, alot but nowhere near as much as a new head gasket. Most cars will cut out if they over heat but do not drive it any great distance and get it in to a garage ASAP.

Claire, it may not be expensive if the radiator is not leaking too seriously, often a £10 bottle of Radweld will sort the problem out.

 

You have to get it checked by a garage who won't try and bleed you for every penny. Unless the vehicles under warranty don't take it to a Vauxhall dealer, waste of money!

I've phoned my macanic up. He's gonna have a look tomorow, and he says it could be the thermostat.

sounds like the thermostat if you're getting smoke at the front, it's not a big job. Do not let the car drive on red and be very careful, the last thing you want is to worsen whatever the damage is.

I can't afford a brand new one. The monthly repayments would be too much.
