Best Single Of 2004 So Far...

Recommended Posts

Every band that straps on a guitar these days just plays dull indie-bore rubbish like Snow Patrol.

'Quirky' bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Delays are okay but are simply uninteresting.

So called 'saviours' of British music like Keane and Coldplay are just absolutely dire. Does having an ear for music not qualify you to be a music critic anymore?

'Pop' music has diabolical for years. Blue, for fks sake??

Decent rock is non-existant. American atrocities like Linkin Park do not count as decent rock.

Soul and R&B is music for thick clubbers when they're 'chillin''.

The last decent dance record was made about 8 years ago.

Best single of the year so far? Toxic by Britney Spears is the only one that springs to mind, and that worries the hell out of me. Not because I'm embarrassed that I like the record, but that there should be at least a dozen or so songs I like better.

Best album of the year so far? There hasn't been one. Well... there has, but only about five people have a copy of it.

1st Prize for music presenter who needs a kicking - Fearne Cotton. She needs a fkin' slap! I hate all this TOTP Saturday nonsense where shittty fking pop twats like Blazing Squad, Blue, D-Side and VS all come together and Cotton acts like she's friends of the stars, and that she settles down with Emma Bunton on a Friday night for a bottle of wine and an episode of Friends, and that Pop Skool cartoon is the most cringeworthy 45 seconds of TV every weekend, and she's always got that fking grin on her face like she's really funny but she isn't, and she always calls the young girls who phone in "mate", and she says "wicked" all the time and to be honest I'd rather shagg Pat Butcher than Fearne Cotton.

Best video of the year so far? Britney again.

LOL!!!!!!!!!

OK, you know what Zeal, my musical taste is changing (for the better i hope?) as i must be maturing now i'm getting older!!!!!

Now, i know you think that i like pop, and RnB, and stuff like that, and i do, but remember, i like these types of music because i know no other!!!! I was not old enough in the 80's to appreciate good quality stuff etc..

And i was still not old enough, really, in the 90's to appreciate the brilliance of the music you like then. Yes, i know, i was into Take That and East 17 and 911 and bands like that. I was the generation that the music industry of these bands were aimed at.

However, i was into bands such as Pulp, Oasis, and Blur towards the end of the 90's. I loved them sort of bands, but there were on a hand picked few at my school who was into bands like these, so it was easier to talk about the boy bands at lunch time.

Now, 2000 to 2004, granted, you may say that there is not much good music around, but this is the "era" (can i say that?) that i can call mine, and the music goes along with it. Yes, i like RnB and Dance(not truly classed as music - but is brilliant to get up and dance to!!!!!), but there isn't anything else out there for me to choose from!!!!

But i havet to say, that i do love Maroon 5 at the moment and the latest track from Blink 182 is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!

Zeal - re: the rant about Fearne Cotton - you don't have to watch it, I think you'll find very few of the rest of us spend our Saturday mornings watching something we thoroughly hate. I'm not trying to be annoying, it just seems a bit pointless to me, I haven't watched those kind of programmes for years, for exactly the reasons you list!

Music has been complete crap this year. I'd say my fav songs of the year are probably "Maroon 5: Harder to Breath" and "Jet: Look What You've Done" but I wouldn't describe these as brilliant songs and I certainly didn't go out and buy the singles.

I certainly don't agree with what Claire was saying about not being old enough to appreciate music in the 70s, 80s what ever.

I wasn't even born when the Stones and The Beatles were around and was about 8 or 9 when U2 and Guns N Roses were pretty big but I still appreciate these bands.

I try to watch as many music shows on TV as possible, Libro, mainly in the vain hope that something will actually may my ears [***!!***] up and inspire me. Rarely happens.

Despite the fact that most music (pop and R&B in particular) depresses me, I do like to keep up to speed on what's going on, as you know.

Whilst enjoying my Saturday morning lie-in, I do admittedly prefer CD:UK which has a much better selection of music, albeit only in that Snow Patrol and Keane are marginally better than D-Side and the Blazin' Squad.

Of course I could watch something else Libro, but Saturday Morning Kitchen (BBC2) and Horse Racing (CH4) really do not interest me in the slightest.

Best of the 'Pop' shows of course is Pop World on Sunday morning.

P.S. Got a feeling this crap censorship thing doesn't like the word P R I C K, so that will be the word that is censored.

Yellow - wouldn't disagree with either of the two singles you mentioned, but as you rightfully said, hardly classics, and a little depressing that they're amongst the best stuff released this year.

Claire - I had my first Beatles albums at the age of 12, and was listening to proper current music (which at the time was stuff like The Stone Roses) by the time I was 14.

Quite like that Tim Burgess song that was out at the start of the year, can't for the life of me think what it's called.

That Scissor Sisters' song 'Laura' keeps fecking going around my head at the moment, bloody annoying!

No, i meant i wasn't old enough to appreciate the music during the 80's (maybe i should have explained myself better?)

I love most of the music throughout the 80's, and like i keep saying, i may not know who sung the song, or the band, or what it is called, but i will know the song, and i could more than likely sing it!!!!!

I love Guns and Roses, and Bon Jovi!!!!!!! And i also love the Police, and U2!!!!!!

I only had 8 years of the 80's, but it must tell you something mustn't it?!!!!! It must have had excellent music for me to remember songs from then? I mean this is comining up to 20 or so years later and we still hear and love music from then!!!!!

(you probably wouldn't be hearing music from today's industry in 20 years time)

I think I know the song you mean. It's pretty good, you can certainly hear Slash's influence!
