Local Elections

Trying to keep an eye out on the local elections to see how it will affect STFC. Given how badly Labour are performing over the rest of the country, in a similar instance in Slough, could Rob Anderson lose control of the council or does it work differently?

I'm presuming he is a head of Labour for Slough which is why he is the council leader at present or am I wrong? Can't say I usually take much interest in politics as I think I've clearly shown in my understanding, or lack of it, above!!

Only two wards left to announce results for and with Labour currently on 15 seats, they would need the remaining six to hold control of the council. One of the wards is Upton which is usually favourable to Conservatives. This will be a NOC Council in the next few hours. Bye bye Kennedy Park.

Looks like Labour will need to "team up" with other parties or inderpendents to achive a majority and this will be where Kennedy park will be won or lost

Has anyone heard how Janik has done because his seat could by the one that swings it

Should have looked at the council site before posting the above as the 3 britwell councillors have been re-elected!!!

Still some seats to be decided, but Labour are well down on last election

To control the council a party or group needs 21 seats on the 41 seat council

As it stands with two wards (6 seats) yet to return, Labour have 15 seats, the BILLD group (assuming that all IBR, Independents, Liberals and Lib Dems continue to club to together) also have 15 seats, with the Conservatives on 5.

I doubt the Conservatives would choose to work with either Labour or BILLD and of the six seats yet to be announced, they held 3 of them going into these elections.

NOC beckons. Bad news on the feasibility study.

Two independents in Langley St Marys, one Conservative (beating the other independent by a solitary vote!)

Assuming that non Labour and Conservatives bunch together for BILLD the make up of the council is

BILLD 17

Labour 15

Conservatives 9

Will be interesting to see what happens with BILLD from here - I imagine they formed in the first place to boost numbers to form some sort of opposition to the dominating Labour Party - now that the common enemy has effectively been downed, will they still choose to work together? Coalitions with so many different groups could get messy.

Where this leaves Kennedy Park remains to be seen - I expect the feasibility study to be concluded (contracts have been signed so can't get out of it without paying up so may as well get something for the money before paying back Deaner) but I don't see much happening beyond that. With losing control of Slough I think Rob Anderson might look to progress with his political career and consider getting himself the nod for a constituency for the general election after next.

It could well lead to some interesting times ahead next year then. Given how the BILLD have firmly put their NO to the Kennedy Park idea, I wonder how Martyn Deaner will feel about all this given it looks like the Kennedy Park idea might not even get off the ground now.

Of course this now means that the likes of Janik and Howard (who knocked on our door in the week and said the Conservatives ARE interested in helping the football club) have to get off their ar*es and do something.

It was very easy for Janik to make wild statements about sorting this out with Thorne and that out with Wexham Park before when they seemingly had no chance of getting in. Now Labour have made such a cods of things, Janik will actually have to prove it. Anyone fancy another drum banging session?

According to Sweep in the Observer, Martyn Deaner will be elected the next Mayor of Slough and sell it! One way to get your money back!!

I understand that 6 Lib Dems have got in - given that they share with Labour elsewhere they could club together for a one vote majority over the tories and the independents. We shall see.

Well, that will be up to them to decide. Given that the one Lib Dem councillor worked with the IBR before though, the five new Lib Dem's may well be encouraged to link up as well, as unless the Labour and Conservative councillors hook up, there is no clear majority really which I can see is going to lead to a number of messy arguements over the coming year or two which essentially is not going to benefit anyone.

"we have an Independent candidate in Slough who is under investigation as I write for election fraud. I don't think it is fair to name the person at this stage but I believe a statement has been made to the police who are investigating.

If found guilty this person could go to prison.

He allegedly entered an asian household and said to the woman there that he had to take the unsigned ballot papers while the husband was out.

Later on an observer at the count allegedly saw the postal vote ballot paper counter-signed by the accused.

I hope that he doesn't get done for one simple reason, he is great entertainment value in Council meetings. I think he gave me more laughs this year in Council meetings than ever before. Now the Billd group have more members I'm sure he will be even more unbearable and sanctimonious."

Taken from the This is Slough Forum. Could it possibly be the same councillor who organised the survey on whether local residents wanted a Stadium in Britwell?---I think so. I wonder how many survey forms he collected and filled in himself?
