No.... not with us but a Step up... I understand Southall FC ( that 5-1 drubbing of Ilford in the Vase still hurts all of us who were present ) have ceased trading, so Sittingbourne FC join the Southern League Div 1 East (to which we "feed" ) and Fleet Town are reprieved from relegation taking their place in the Isthmian Div 1 . I wonder what's going to hit us all next ?

Sad demise. I remember the original Southall as a towering force in amateur football in the 40s and 50s.

 

Don't remember the year or round but they came over to play Romford at Brooklands in the Amateur Cup (great old days) and won 2-1 if my memory serves me correctly.

 

Also I think that their left winger (or was it right and the position shows how long ago it was) was a fella called ------- Reynolds whom I believe was a regular English Amateur International.

 

Oh how I wish those glorious old days were back. The days of Ilford, Leytonstone, Walthamstow Avenue and Romford in the Isthmian and Bromley, Southall and suchlike in the Athenian. With thousands of fans packing the terraces every Saturday.

 

These two leagues in the south and the Northern League ( Bishop Auckland et al)provided all the

great amateur clubs of that era.

 

How about a few reminiscences postings from those who remember those days fondly.

The original Southall, founded 1871, are ground sharing with Chesham United. Perhaps they will have a better chance of returning to Southall now. By the way, I do not remember them being a towering force in the 40s, but perhaps someone else has memories going back that far.

The original Southall are expected to be groundsharing at Hanwell Town next season.
