Club statement now online.

Please note you will need to have Adobe Reader to view the Ryman League communications to Enfield Town that are available for viewing. I don't have the link to Adobe but it shouldn't be too difficult to get the free version.

Interesting stuff.

Ryman letter to ETFC 5th May.....

"...I am pleased to tell you that at their meeting last friday the Board of the Isthmian League decided to accept your application for membership of Division Two for next season and you should now notify the Essex Senior League to whom I will be writing today."

Ryman Statement 7th June.....

"The Board did not have an opportunity to make this decision themselves and the decision to withdraw the invitation to Ilford was taken without full Board approval."

eh? But the letter says the Board was there and decided to accept ETFC's application! Presumably Ilford received a letter informing them that their application had been unsuccessful because they could only accept one ESL application.

So, the Ryman League invited ETFC to join Ryman Division 2. ETFC replied saying they'd like to join (enclosing the application fee). The Ryman Board then wrote to ETFC categorically stating that their application had been successful and that they should take appropriate action with regards to withdrawing from their current league. It looks pretty much like a very simple contract to me (of course I could be wrong!).

I find it difficult to believe that the Ryman League can withdraw the offer on the basis that there wasn't full board approval when ETFC have a letter from the board stating that the board made the decision to admit them. Of course if ETFC had withdrawn from the ESL then there would have to be grounds for redress (perhaps by the FA) against the Ryman League. Was there FA intervention? Does anyone know whether FA intervention would mean the club has to put up with it's lot?

If the club are seeking advice from the FA having received no explanation from the Ryman League this would suggest that the FA were not involved in the decision - wouldn't it?!

Of course the Ryman League should have made their selection criteria clear from the outset, but that would have been the intelligent thing to do. Saying it was 'likely' to come down to ground criteria is fairly non-commital.

I hope no-one bought those Ryman Dinner tickets!

Let's just thank our lucky stars that we didn't take Nick's advice and withdraw from the ESL!

Strange how Foxy is very quiet at the moment isn't it?!

I think there's more to come here - especially if the Ryman League withdrew the offer without FA involvement.

The producing of the infamous May 5th document in the public domain now allows me to make a further comment on something that has mystified a number of you good folk. The reason why Enfield Town were accepted so quickly back into the fold was simply that, having been told by the Ryman League to "resign from the ESL " , Enfield Town informed us accordingly but whereas it said in the letter that "the League would be informed" .. we never were, therefore I was extremely reluctant to take Enfield Town away from our constitution, to protect their position in a League for F A Vase and F A Cup reasons until I could fathom out what on earth was going on ... just as well..... one has to tread extremely carefully in this weird world of ours !

... but it also states about increasing membership to 22 clubs which their constitution wouldn't actually allow - currently 3 x24 with div 2 making the total 88 (ie 16) - perhaps that has something to do with it ?

Hi Gonzo.

You could have a word with your [presumably, new] solicitors but I was always taught that "Offer + Acceptance + Consideration = Contract".

Thinking about it for a moment, would you really want to play in the Isthmian League anyway?

You are wrong my big nosed friend....

I think you all know that I am not one to kick a man when he's down....and I have never taken place in the berating and piss taking of you supporters.

I am genuinely sad for the ETFC supporters.

More than you (and some of your pals...cleggy etc) can say Gonzo who couldn't help yourself by constantly giving us at Ilford a dig.

I honestly believe that ETFC are a great club who are destined for better things. So you have received a knock back.

So what......you are big enough to come back from this and win the ESL in style next season.

If ETFC can hold on to its players and management team I think that ETFC will do an Arsenal and go undefeated in the league all season.

No need to get personal!

Thought that might lure you out of your den.

Yep, I freely admit poking fun at Ilford recently when they were initially turned-down. I believe that some of Ilford's off-field tactics this last season have been somewhat 'underhand' and it would not surprise me to learn that this pattern has continued post-season. Using my posts to attempt to lure ETFC players away was pathetic and lost them some respect in my book.

That said, good luck in Ryman 2 and hopefully we can stick 7 past you again in the Southern League!

It all goes to show:

1) the ETFC committee acted in good faith

2) the ESL Chairman handled the whole issue well

3) the Ryman league committee have made complete asses of themselves (again)

Doubt we will ever know the real reasons behind the Ryman's incredible U-turn. No point in speculating.

Looking forward to another tough season in the ESL, and if ETFC play well enough and win the league, promotion to the Southern.

Come on the Town!!!
